Some help with affiliate disclaimers please

So, I've taken some steps back after my last post. Concentrating on building good content which feels good!

I'm on Course 3 of the Certification and learning about affiliates and linking etc. There seems to be no advice on affiliates disclosures or the disclaimer we often see on posts where affiliate links appear.

Google hasn't turned up anything useful but perhaps I am searching the wrong things. I have looked through some on the training I found here at WA but I am just not getting it. as usual I'm worrying about it. I have published the disclaimer template in Site Content in any case.

I use Amazon affiliates program as well as some independent and network ones. I am based in the UK.

Can anyone point me to or give me a "dummies" guide to what I need to write and how I attach this disclaimer to each relevant post?

Lastly, is there a template disclaimer along the lines of "these statements not being evaluated by professional health bodies and is not intended to cure or treat disease"? And do I need to post this on every relevant page too?

Thanks in advance lovely people,

Lace

Most affiliate companies insist that you comply with the FTC guidelines. You can read more about affiliate disclosures at https://marionblackonline.com/affiliate-disclosures/

Amazon has their own (additional) affiliate disclosure and you must use the exact words they supply or you could lose your account.

Thank you Marion. I will have to sort all this out.

Left you a comment too.

Here is my training about this:

Hey Loes,
Sorry for the late response.
Thank you for sharing with me.

I have my Privacy Policy as a PDF link in the Footer Credits of my site. Go to Appearance > Customize > Footer Options > Footer > Footer Byline Text

Mine is set as

© 2017 Music Mayhem ~ Site by CatchaWaveDesign ~ Privacy Policy

The 1st section copyrights my site, the 2nd section links to the site for my website business, and the 3rd section links to the Privacy Policy which I uploaded as a PDF into my media library.

Hope this helps! :-)

Thanks Bob!

Some great points raised there. I am an Independent consultant for Neal's Yard Remedies Organic and I link to my online shop with them on occasion. While I do make this clear on the relevant posts it could use a disclaimer I'm sure?

Copy writing your site? Could you share a bit more about that please?

I will have a play with what you suggest hopefully it works.

Thanks again,

Lace

No Footer byline in my footer options. I get a bunch of other things. My theme is reef, if that helps you Bob or anyone guide me further? Thank you.

Give me 5 minutes Lace. I'll install the Reef theme on one of my sandbox sites and get back with some info. :-)

You Bob are a star, really appreciate it. Thank you.

Have it loaded now, will need to access the footer credits through the Appearance Editor. Give me a few more minutes, will be right back.

Ok, here you go. To make edits like this, I typically open up a new sample page. I've done this on my site at BobDraper.rocks which is a site I use to play around with.

For your Reef theme, go to Appearance > Editor > Theme Footer. Copy this text and place it in another document for safekeeping. Now, delete it from this window and replace it with your code (from the Text Editor of your Sample Page) and update.

For this example I've replaced it with this:

© 2017 Neal's Yard Remedies Organic ~ Privacy Policy

When you visit the BobDraper.rocks site you'll see this in the Footer Credits. Now your Disclaimer/Privacy Policy will appear on every page.

Another thing you want to do is create a Child Theme. This is the plugin I use.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/child-theme-configurator/

This copies all the parent theme data into a child theme so that updates to the parent theme don't overwrite your edits. Hope this helps Lace, let me know if you need any help.

Thank you Bob, I really appreciate you taking the time to explore this for me.

Do I use that code also? How do you make the code?

I'm gonna have a play now. I've installed the plugin you've suggested. Totally new to all this, no idea what I'm doing.

Will come back to you if or should I say when, I get stuck.

Warm wishes,

At the store now picking up some things for a dear friend. Will reply in detail when I get home. But to get you started, create a new sample page to save As Draft, enter the text you want with the color, center, etc. Make sure you've uploaded your disclaimer to Media Library, then copy that file name for the link to the file. Always select "open in new window" so they don't leave your site. Be home in 30, will check in then.

Aw, how kind of you Bob.

This would be so much easier if I was sat with you. I have no idea what a draft page is.I am looking, messing about and feeling lost.

The disclaimer should be a image file?? Crikey, I'm struggling with this.

No rush, I'll be here trying to sort it.

Cheers

Hi Lace, yesterday got away from me. I need to take a friend to the bus station so I'll be in and out today. Tomorrow I'll be back full time.

Once you create a new page, save it as a draft rather than publish. You'll see where I mean in the attached image. The privacy policy I linked is an old draft, and the updated one is published on my main site.

It should be a text rather than image file, something people can read and print if they want. Let me know if you need more help. :-)

Hi Bob,

Apologies for the late reply. It's been rather busy at home. Thank you so much for your input. I'm getting there now. Really appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

Warm wishes,
Lace

Hey there Lace, no worries my friend! Hope you have a great day! :-)
