Any image that appears on a .gov site is in the public domain.

What this means is that if you select a picture from .gov site you are free to use it without the need for attribution.
However, I have been informed that some pictures do have copywright issues per this link (thanks Welshy) http://www.usa.gov/Topics/Graphics.shtml so while many pictures are available check on the site for copywright.

How do you get only the .gov sites?
Use a Google filter.

If you were looking for Train Wrecks, go to Google Images and add the site filter.

This will return only the pictures tagged as train wrecks only on .gov sites.

Hope this helps.

Cool, thanks

Thanks Craig

Thanks Craig!

any one please help

Thanks for the resource and how to get it.

Very useful information, thanks
Hudson.

Good information. Thanks. I was wondering if there is a resource that lists all the Google modifiers and what they do and how to user them. They're seems to be quite a few.

There is, and once upon a time I had it. http://www.googleguide.com/advanced_operators.html

Thanks much - got it bookmarked.

Thank you Craig, I'm always looking for new places.

You need to be careful as there actually isn't a legal definition of Public Domain. If the photograph that appears on a Government site has been licensed or commissioned by the site then the copyright remains with the photographer not the site. Rich.

Quote: Some of these photos are in the public domain or U.S. government works and may be used without permission or fee. However, some images may be protected by license or copyright. You should read the disclaimers on each site before using these images. http://www.usa.gov/Topics/Graphics.shtml

Thanks Craig for that link. I guess I was mistaken. I guess there is always a first time.

It's new to me Craig, I just decided to have a quick look after Rich mentioned the above.
I was under the impression it was Public Domain too.

You are the bomb
