Beer with Kyle: Has AI Hit a Plateau?
Hey Everyone!
Today I want to talk about something that’s been on my mind lately: the progression of AI. Over the last four to five months, we’ve seen some aggressive competition between the big players in the space, and while things have been moving at lightning speed, I feel like we’ve hit a bit of a plateau.
This might just be a temporary slowdown… or it could be the launchpad into something much more significant. Either way, I’d love to open up the floor and get your feedback.
But first, the beer.
This Week’s Beer: Sapporo
If you’ve ever been to a Japanese restaurant, you’ve likely seen this one before. Today’s beer is Sapporo, a premium Japanese lager that’s crisp, clean, and refreshing.
I’m drinking it out of my Wealthy Affiliate glass from one of our Vegas trips a few years back (we’ve had different editions of these, along with mugs). And speaking of Vegas, we’ll have more exciting updates about next year’s event soon.
ChatGPT-5: Simplified, but Not a Leap
Here I am in ChatGPT-5 (Plus account). A couple of weeks ago, OpenAI rolled out an update that simplified things for the average user. Instead of confusing names like “o4 Mini High,” the models now have clearer descriptions. That was a complaint for a long time, and I think they’ve fixed it.
That said, I know there was a lot of hype around GPT-5 being the “big game-changer.” What actually happened? Many of the features that were supposed to be part of the GPT-5 launch were already released earlier—like the GPT-4o image model, which is still excellent.
But on the coding and video side, OpenAI seems to be lagging behind competitors like Claude and Grok, and even Gemini in some cases. With everyone racing to release updates, it seems like there’s no longer space for a flashy, Apple-style keynote launch. If a company holds back a feature for months, they risk losing ground.
Has AI Progression Slowed?
From my perspective, the pace of progress in AI has slowed down over the last month or so compared to the explosive growth of the previous six months.
This could just be a short-term plateau before the next leap forward. But it feels different than the hype leading into GPT-5.
And at the end of the day, AI still depends on human creativity and knowledge. These tools can help us learn faster, solve bigger problems, and work more efficiently, but they aren’t inventing entirely new foundations on their own.
A Real Example: Fantasy Football
To give you an example of how I’m using AI right now. I’ve got a fantasy football draft tomorrow and I’ve set up a thread with ChatGPT-5 where I fed in all the league rules, strategies, and even rankings. As the draft happens, I’ll update it live, and it will help me make smart picks.
This is one of millions of possible use cases, but honestly, it doesn’t feel like a big leap over what was possible with earlier models. The results are good, but not groundbreaking.
Opening Up the Discussion
Now I want to hear from you:
- Do you feel like AI progress has slowed down?
- Has your usage of AI changed in recent months?
- Are the outputs you’re getting better, worse, or about the same compared to a few months ago?
Drop your thoughts in the comments below. I’d love to hear from both advanced users and those just getting started with AI.
Coming Next Week!
We’ve got a brand-new technology release early next week. Something we haven’t discussed before, and I’m really excited to get it into your hands. There may also be another launch later in the week, so keep your eyes peeled.
It’s going to be an exciting one.

It is interesting to read some of the comments and the observations. For those of us who are just starting, at least to me, it is hard to tell whether it is plateaued, since we can't easily compare its past capabilities with how it's evolving now. However, from what I've seen, it seems to be progressing, especially given how widely it is now being used. At my workplace for example, staff are using AI behind the scenes to do work. And to facilitate work task efficiency some staff who do a lot of writing were recently given AI licenses not only to help them work more efficiently and complete tasks faster, but also to protect the company data and information. Hence, I think, even if AI is plateauing, it is progressing as it is now being used widely.
I agree, Betty. It is only going to become a more and more influential part of our daily lives. It is inevitable.
@Kyle, @Daverh. I think that the use of AI for generic informative content is growing, as is the training model, which is based on selected data input from user's interactions with Chatbots. It is worth remembering that Chatbot AI Algorithms is essentially a mathematical one which is supported by probability and statistics. That said, it is not very difficult to have Chatbots respond with content that is both constrained to the context of your topic while providing quality content.
I hadn't thought of using Chatbots to determine probable outcomes for betting purposes, it's a great idea, but somewhat of a gamble.
I have had a lot of success when trying to understand and define Quantum Groups or group spaces that act like Quantum Objects that interact in weird ways.
Perhaps there is hope for String Theory yet, Haha :)
I have already solved it, but I have not finished my paper on it yet.
The universe is made of spaghetti, not particles.
Every atom is just pasta vibrating at different speeds.
Black holes are meatballs where the spaghetti gets stuck.
To solve string theory, just boil the cosmos for 8 minutes and add sauce.
Oh is that all lol,
And all this time I was thinking that wave dynamics actually defines string action? Hehehe
I have to agree that AI has plateaued a bit, but at a staggering height! I am constantly amazed by what it does. Either the quality of its writing has improved immensely, or your manipulation of the WA model has made its writing quality more natural. I find my edits are less frequent regarding specific words and phrases. I'm a die-hard ChatGPT fan, so some of the others are unfamiliar to me.
From the outside, it can look like progress has slowed. Big flashy breakthroughs—chatbots, image generators—arrived fast, and now improvements feel more incremental: better reasoning here, smoother interfaces there.
But often what’s happening is a shift from “headline-grabbing demos” to quieter, harder work:
making models more reliable,
reducing hallucinations,
integrating them into daily tools,
figuring out safety and regulation.

I think AI will go the way of all new technologies. There was a huge rush of improvement, when AI first arrived in our hands, followed by a steadying down of developments/improvements, puntuated with exciting announcements along the way. I am thinking how smartphones arrived with great fanfare and how they have developed over the years.
Sometimes their new products or upgrades are underwhelming and sometimes they are much more exciting. AI for the most part will be like that, in my opinion.
However, it is such a new thing, at least for us, and the sky may well be the limit, that there is always the possibility there could be some real gamechanging moments in the coming months/years.
One thing is for sure, we will need to keep embracing it if we want to stay in the game of online business.
Cheers for another interesting "Beer with Kyle."
