Consider the Ant.

As the splendor of the early morning light this morning backlit the Cascade Mountians in silhouette, the fresh snowfalls on Mount Rainier glowed in in soft pastel pink. It reminded me of the majesty and glory of God's creation (Yes I was up early enough to see it). I was thinking about what are we to do with the splendor of creation that God has provided us. I was thinking about my work to build my business and how to keep the dedication and dillegence needed to continue to move forward amongst all the distractions of life.

We all understand that God has asked us to be dillegent. To do our best in all circumstances. Colossians 3:23 reminds us that, "Whatever we do, do your work Heartily as for the Lord rather than for men". The Proverbs writer in 6:6 says "Consider the Ant, oh sluggard; observe her ways and be wise". Often, however these words ring hollow to us in the business of our daily life. Bosses that don't understand us or seem to not appreciate our efforts, customers that push us greedily for thier own sake, all serve to dampen our will to provide cheerful service. Yet, whether your day seems meaningless as you work preparing coffee after coffee as a barista, or you are charged with corraling a gang of 1st graders into learning some new subject, maybe we are bored inspecting parts critical to airplane manufacture, perhaps sheparding your toddlers and making a home for your family or a thankless position in a ministry, through all God's urging is the same to each of us. Be dilligent in your efforts what ever they may be.

Today I read a verse that really helped me to focus on the why and the reward for such dillegence. Even in it's simplicity and short words it speaks not only of the command, but the reward, the motivation, all the while describing how important we are to our Lord. How and why he counts on us to be subject to one another (Ephesians 5:21). It helps to demonstrate how not matter how secular we feel our work or business is, it is not. It is our spiritual service. It is where we show how our lives have been transformed as how we treat our employees, peers and supervisors and live in a way that demonstrates the teaching about God as a saving God. I hope this verse also gives you pause to think about how you go about your day as it did me.
1 Peter 4:10 "As each one has recieved a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewarts of the manifold grace of God"

Thank you Lord.
