I have dead spots and was looking into a WiFi booster. After searching, they have boosters and extenders. I have no idea what I need. Been researching, but now I'm more confused then ever.
Has anyone ever used any of these?

Any recommendations on which one to use?

There are so many choices.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, Kenny.

I can understand your confusion since the two terms are often used interchangeably along with "Repeater."

Here's how I tend to think of them:

Think of a "BOOSTER" as a device designed to increase the POWER of your WiFi signal. In other words, it boosts the signal.

So, let's say that you are receiving a signal in your basement, but it is weak. A BOOSTER will strengthen that signal for you.

On the other hand, think of an EXTENDER as a device designed to increase or extend the RANGE of your signal. It extends the signal.

So, let's say that you want to be able to work on your laptop while siting next to the pool. However, that location is too far away for the signal to reach. An extender (also known as a REPEATER) picks up the signal and then retransmits it so it can reach farther.

Anyway, thats my understanding. Hope it helps.

Continued success,

Joshua

So, I guess it wouldn't matter which one I get, they both kind of do the same thing in essence. Right?
Either way it's going to better the signal.

Sorry for the delay, Kenny.

You mentioned having "dead spots," so the type you need would be the "Extender" because it will EXTEND the reach of your present signal into those dead areas. You may have to experiment a bit with placement, though.

Hope you're all set. Continued success,

Joshua

I've been researching this, but I still don't understand the difference between a booster and a extender.
What is a good one to buy?
It looks like they just plug into a wall outlet.

Hey Kenny,

Here's the best way to go about this:

First, go to "Best Buy" to get what you need. Nowhere else!
Next, just explain to the technician what you are trying to do and the problem you are now having.
Finally, purchase the right equipment item and return home a happy camper. Because...Best Buy Rocks!

Continued success,

Joshua

Okay, this one is right up my alley! I am a full time RVer and deal with this one a lot, so much so that I wrote a post on my website about it to help others. It is one of my top ranking posts on my website!

Can I invoke some shameless advertising here? Will you forgive me? I think it will help!
