Glad Im learning wrong then right

So I have a question why are we told to buy a domain on day one....then told about the research needed before you buy one. I have basically useless domain name that is way to long for anyone to actually type in because I was told to be specific. I was really proud first day, now I feel like I wasted my time and money....which is exactly what this site teaches us NOT to do. WTH
