Write What You Know About!

In the short time that I have been at "Wealthy Affiliate" the one thing I seem to have found is that many people want to start an Internet Marketing business but don't know what niche to go into. I've heard I'm not sure what my site should be about…to I have a site but I'm having trouble writing content for it, or I've run out of things to write about. These are just some of the things I've heard. When I have talked to a few of these people, I have discovered that they were looking at a niche as being what is the most popular. Let's face it, if you've done any Internet Marketing than you know that the top (3) niche's are:Money-making, Health and Fitness, and Relationships/Love.

If you select one of these niches and don't really know a lot about it, or can't really get passionate about any of these subjects then you probably won't stick with writing content on your site. Believe it or not, 95% of all blog sites are abandoned every year. Yes, I know that statistic is high, but much
of this happens because of lack of content and ideas for continuing to write it. Similar things happen with websites as well. Usually a person will buy hosting and a domain for a site for 1 to 2 years and at the end of that time just give up on it, due once again to lack of continual content.

So, what should a person do to make sure when choosing a niche that this doesn't happen to you. It's actually quite simple: Write about something you know about and you feel is important to share with an audience. As a person, who writes many blogs I can tell you this has held true for me. I am also a self-published author who is writing several fiction/fantasy book series. Yes, it should be quite obvious to you that I have a love for writing, but the thing that helps me is I write about things that I am passionate about and I feel that an audience to my site will also be.

When I started at "Wealthy Affiliate" the little alarm bells in my brain went off on what my niche would be, and that is "Internet Marketing for Newbie's".The reason I chose it is since I had become an unemployed teacher back in May of 2013, I taught in the schools computer lab for a little over 12 years, and although I taught Kindergarten through 3rd Grade, I also taught the adult parents of our school in evening classes on how to use a computer and the Internet. The one thing I found that when a parent was new to this technology that at first they were hesitant, and then once they maneuvered the computer; teaching them about the Internet opened up a big world to them and the possibilities of using this for starting a business.

So, with this all in mind I knew that creating content for this site would not be hard for me, because I would just teach Internet Marketing for Newbie's the way I learned, and take out the hair-pulling moments I experienced. I also intend to incorporate and market the "Wealthy Affiliate" program to them.

In closing, no matter what…write about something you know and feel that you could share and teach to a large audience. Let it be something that you think will help a person if they knew this. Help the person learn something easier, and use your past experience to help that person avoid the pitfalls you might have experienced. If you really think about it, there are many Self-Help books out there that are extremely popular and have sold millions of copies. If they could come up with something to help a person out with, I'm sure you can to.

Here are just a few ideas that I am sure some of you could write volumes and volumes about:

*How to Save Money

*How to live on a one family income

*How to get better organized

*How to schedule your life better (tips and strategies)

*How to deal with a problem child

*How to deal with problem neighbors

*How to beat addiction

*How to fix your own computer

*How to deal with various computer problems

*How to deal with a health issue (If you have a health issue such as: Diabetes,
Arthritis, Lupus, etc. - discuss it and talk about the things you do to deal
with these ailments)

These are just a few suggestions, but I'm sure you're getting the idea. Just write about what you know and are passionate about, and you feel an audience would be too! (Check your idea out in Keywords and really see if there is an audience for what you want to teach or help someone with. If so, there is your niche)

I hope this article has helped you in some way in finding your niche. Good Luck and see you on the inside of the search engine on the Internet (and hopefully on the top of Page 1 of your Niche)!

AWESOME TIPS!

Thanks.

Very good article KMG!

Thanks vhamilton for your feedback.

Kathryn - I agree that it helps to choose a niche that you know something about because it makes the writing a whole lot easier. But there may be the odd person who enjoys the challenge of researching something entirely new. Wouldn't be for me, but I have known it to work.

Thanks for sharing your insight and experience on this.

Yeah, I can see what you're saying, although I think a person who is brand new and struggling to write content, which I have discovered to be the case with many people out here, that the best niche is one that they know something about and can write volumes and volumes about. Yeah, I realized there will want to be some who enjoy the challenge of something diffierent, but I have to wonder if this might be the reason why so many blogs and websites are abandoned every year. Statistics do show this. Thanks for sharing your views on this subject. Much appreciated!

Kathryn…good advice…keep them coming. Best wishes.

Thanks Michael1013, and for reading my blog.

How to beat addiction..as a clinical psychologist working on the area..i had thought about doing it..yet...i decided to choose another niche...Thanks!

Hi David, I really think you would be better off doing what you know. People like an expert, especially in the area of addition. Your ABOUT ME page on your site would definitely tell a person visiting your site that you are definitely qualified to help them with addictions. This would in turn build trust among your visitors to your site. Good Luck.

Thanks so much KMG365. I will probably go to that one after! But, i had a music site for 4 years. Have almost 2000 followers on fb..i have to try that one before. Am i ..wong? :(

I can understand why you would want to work on your music site, but I would probably if I were you create another site for addiction. You can start out slow with that one, while you continue to work on your music site. I actually have 8 blogs that I write, and so I am pretty busy, and now I am going to be creating 2 wordpress sites along with them. One of the things I do is I have a calendar and I make note on it, so I know which site or sites I will work on each day. I also use a digital timer to keep me on task. Scheduling and timing keeps me on course. Also, seeing it staring at me on the calendar makes me stay on course as well. Good Luck with whatever you decide. Just remember, you know how much time you have to dedicate to this, and you really can't judge what I do fully. My best advice is stay with something that you are passionate about and you know that you won't run out of content to write about. The thing I love about having so many sites is when I have writer's block on one site, I can generally find something else to write about on another.

How do you have time for 8 sites??? Fainting here!

Hi David. So how do I find time for 8 blogs? Well, first I am a writer by nature. In fact, I have self-published 4 fiction/fantasy books, which are currently being sold on amazon. The other way I find the time is I generally only work on 1 or 2 sites each day. I schedule them on a calendar and make sure I stay on task. As I stated in my last blog entry here on (WA), if you write about something you know or feel passionate about, believe me it ends up not being all that hard. I do a "To Do List" everyday in the evening so I know what I have to accomplish the next day. As a former teacher, I got in the habit of using a digital timer, to which I use still today in my Internet Business. This keeps me more on task with my time. I also have some breaks worked into the schedule so that I don't get overwhelmed. In fact, when I joined (WA) a few weeks back I had to add two 20 min. a day visiting (WA) into my schedule, so that I could at least finish (1 lesson) a day and to catch up with the social media on this site. The other thing that keeps me motivated is that I am truly doing what I love and that is writing and creating, so you see I don't really consider this work, I consider this to be my dream job.

A pleasure feeling that passion. Thank you.

Your Welcome David. If you ever feel overwhelmed and just need a pep talk just whistle my way. Good Luck.

Good article but bolding everything makes it tough to read...maybe just bold points you want to emphasise.

heh heh
