A Halloween to Remember
It was Halloween night, and the full moon hung low in the sky, casting eerie shadows on the old house. Inside, two friends, Alex and Ben, were huddled together in the living room, telling ghost stories.
"I heard that this house is haunted," Alex whispered. "They say that a vengeful spirit roams the halls, looking for victims."
"That's just a silly rumor," Ben said. "There's no such thing as ghosts."
But just then, a loud crash came from the kitchen. The two friends froze in fear.
"What was that?" Alex asked.
"I don't know," Ben said. "Maybe it was just the wind."
But they both knew that wasn't true. Something was in the house with them.
Slowly, they got up and crept towards the kitchen. The air was cold and damp, and the only sound was the ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway.
They reached the kitchen doorway and peered inside. The room was in disarray. Pots and pans were scattered on the floor, and the cabinets were open.
"What happened here?" Alex asked.
Suddenly, a shadow moved in the corner of the room. Alex and Ben gasped and stepped back.
The shadow grew larger, and a figure emerged from the darkness. It was a tall, thin man with pale skin and sunken eyes. He was wearing a tattered black cloak, and his face was twisted into a malevolent grin.
"Hello," the man said in a raspy voice. "I've been waiting for you."
Alex and Ben turned to run, but the man was in front of them, blocking their way.
"You're not going anywhere," he said. "I'm going to have my fun now."
He reached out with a bony hand and grabbed Alex by the throat. Alex struggled to breathe, but the man's grip was too strong.
Ben watched in horror, but he didn't know what to do. He was paralyzed with fear.
Just when it seemed like Alex was about to suffocate, the man suddenly released him and doubled over in laughter.
"You should have seen the look on your face!" he said. "I'm just kidding. I wouldn't hurt you."
Alex and Ben looked at each other in confusion.
"What was that all about?" Alex asked.
"I was just giving you a scare," the man said. "It's Halloween, after all."
"But you looked so real," Ben said. "And you sounded so scary."
"That's because I'm a professional actor," the man said. "I'm hired by this house to scare the guests on Halloween night."
Alex and Ben breathed a sigh of relief.
"So you're not a ghost?" Alex asked.
"Of course not," the man said. "Ghosts aren't real."
Alex and Ben laughed.
"Well, you sure did give us a scare," Ben said.
"That was the whole point," the man said. "Happy Halloween."
Alex and Ben thanked the man and left the house. They were still a little shaken, but they were also relieved to know that the ghost was just an actor.
As they walked down the street, they couldn't help but laugh about what had happened.
"That was the best Halloween prank ever," Alex said.
"Yeah," Ben said. "But next time, let's warn each other first."
And so, the two friends continued on their way, enjoying the rest of their Halloween night.
