I built my website and immediately afterwards I logged in to my back office and was notified that I had a "THEME UPDATE" ( an update for the look of my website is how I took it)
Yeah, I agree with the comments below you really need to update. You definitely want to keep EVERYTHING up to date on your wordpress websites - all themes, plugins and even wordpress itself will update occassionally because not only will it make your website run smoother, it will keep it more secure and less vulnerable to attacks.
If you really don't like the way the theme update looks, try going into the settings and see if you can easily change that, if not most themes let you edit things like that within the style.css sheet. This wabinar https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/css-primer-the-basics-of-styling-your-site talks about the basics.. It's good stuff to know! :)
Or, you can always change the theme!
The updates fix security issues, code that could break, and in the case of the most recent changes from HTML4 to HTML5 the theme updates are even making the sites run faster and rank easier as the markups are put in place and the code is streamlined to take less space on your hosting account. I would never advise anyone to forgo updating WordPress or their site themes.
Generally the updates don't change anything but the older code in the theme and sometimes they can. But the updates are vital to your website running smoother over time
Hi, I think you may want to head over to your build my web site, log in, go to Appearance on left side and on that menu, click theme options. Look through there and see if you can find what you need. The page should have Basic settings, Layout settings, etc. Don't know to much myself, but Hope this helps.
I dont know if there will be any adverse effects if you do not update your theme. Updates are typically done for improvement. However, I have always updated my theme when there was one available, and all 3 times, it did not change the look of my theme.
If your updates are changing your theme look, which you do not like, I would suggest finding another theme.
What I mean is, what if there's 5 updates to your theme over the next year - are you not going to update it ever?
What you said is my point I want to keep the look but I want my website to run efficiently as well. Thank you Blair
I'm not a technical person, but I generally do the updates. I don't think it would hurt anything if you don't update the theme, but WordPress usually has updates every so often. They're going to work better together if both of them are kept updated.

Is it necassary to do a theme update on your website?

Hi Bill. I was told by Kyle, or maybe it was Carson, that our sites here at WA are backed up so we don't need to do that ourselves. If something goes wrong during an update, we can put in a support ticket. It's so much easier if we don't have to!

You should also back your WebSite up before updating anything.
Thanks Billy how do you back it up?
