Goal setting

It's that time of year again, time to reflect on how the previous year went for you.... Then again, if you didn't have any goals for 2014, how do you know how (un)successful the year was?

I recommend that you take the time to craft well defined goals. Consider creating goals related to your personal, professional, and financial aspirations.

Goals should strike a balance between being challenging and reasonable at the same time. Additionally, you should consider adding a "time" component to them. These aspects go a long way to being able to measure your progress.

Here are a few examples of vague goals:

- Earn enough income to quit my full time job.

- Get into shape.

- Lose weight.

A few examples of refined goals:

- Earn $500 a month within 6 months.

- Run a marathon in two months.

- Lose 10 pounds in two months.

You can see the difference between the first set of vague goals, and the second set. The second set gives you more detail and a basis for measuring your progress. Additionally, you can use the timeframes attached to each goal into incremental steps that help you acheive them.

I encourage you to write down your goals for 2015. Give serious thought to making your goals as specific as possible. Be sure to review your goals often. Oh, and don't forget to share your goals with the WA community. Making your goals public goes a long way to making yourself accountable.

Good luck in 2015!

To our success,

So are the "refined" goals your own particular goals? If so, very realistic and doable. I look forward to watching (and helping) you get them done!

Thanks for the comment Dom. These aren't my goals, just attempted to help others refine theirs. My goals will come in a later post though!
