Is This All There Is To A Job?

News spreads fast round the office where I work. Just like any other office environment I know of. A few days ago news emerged that some (and key) employees in the finance department were being laid off! And this is not because of incompetence. This was just an early, almost ten months, heads up that come April 2014 their services will no longer be needed.

This is a multinational and I guess for the longest time everyone has always assumed their jobs are safe, until now. It has a history of stability. I know the affected staff personally and they are some of the most diligent employees with their work. Sometimes they’d put in extra hours on month, quarter and year end to achieve reporting objectives etc.

The explanation was that some functions were being consolidated and it will be done from one country for the whole region this company operates in. Of course this has had cascading effect on the rest of the staff, everyone wondering if this is a pilot project for the rest of the company?! Just when you thought you had an awesome opportunity to build your life upon its gone in a whisker!

Just highlighted this to show that a job is something we totally have no control over. We tend to forget this very first for some reason. We quickly remember how bad a comfort zone can get. Everyone reading this is then at the right place, trying to learn and run some form of legitimate business online, whether part time or full time.
