Amazon Associates Link Builder issues in Wordpress
Hi everyone, I thought I would share a little experience I had with getting the amazon link builder to work. I was reading the instructions and doing what it said. In spite of this, as a newbie, it just wouldn't work and I couldn't get my head around it. It was driving me mad, then it clicked! Maybe it was just me however, I am hoping if one other person does the same as me, they will find this useful to fix it :)
What I had noticed is that most of my traffic to my site was split almost 50/50 between the UK and US so I wanted to be able to optimise my chances of sales in both countries. This won't work for every product as not everything is available in both countries. However, I can now start to utilise the link builder and write reviews on products that are.
I had downloaded the link builder plugin, done all the settings correctly, set up the affiliate accounts for both the UK and US and thought that would be it. What I was doing was using the Amazon search bar on the post, typing in what I wanted to find, adding the short code in and thinking that was right.
What I wanted was to use 'link text' and it was putting in the code with the words I had already written in. What I needed to do was highlight the words, the just hit the search button! Simple right!? I do feel silly now lol.
Now I have the short code in with both of my ID's.
How do I test it works when I am in the UK? Luckily, google chrome has a fantastic free extension where it can change your location IP address!!! It's called anonymoX. Once the extension is installed, you can turn it on, preview your changes and test the link to see if it comes up with the.co.uk or.com!
