Not Another New Years Resolution!
Some things are not hard to predict. I predict, as many of you have probably done also, that millions of people will be trying to live up to a New Years resolution this year that they made last night or this morning. I have done it, and most likely you have too at some point in your life.
Statistics show that this kind of decision will end in disappointment and failure most of the time. Some psychologists have a term for this phenomena, they call it "false hope syndrome". It means that the goals set are unrealistic and don't match up with the person's internal view of themselves. They say that when we make positive affirmations about ourselves that we don't honestly believe, we are setting ourselves up for failure, and we are damaging our self-esteem in the process.
There is a solution, proper goal setting practices. When we first aim to set a goal, we must believe that it is attainable, and that we possess what it takes to get it done.
Secondly, a plan with steps to achievement must be drawn up, or it is still only wishful thinking. You have to see the roadmap in its entirety before you set out on your journey.
