I think you're talking about "comments" rather than posts. The majority of these will probably be spam from what you're saying. I'd recommend you install GASP http://wordpress.org/plugins/growmap-anti-spambot-plugin/ and Akismet https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/protect-your-site-from-spam-use-akismet You can turn off comments on specific pages and posts in the Quick Edit view of the Pages and Posts menus. :) Rich.

How do I allow someone to make comments on my homepage blog post. My site is devoted to heavy metal music. On my homepage I asked for viewers to choose the 5 best rock singers
For individual posts/pages, follow these steps - login to your WP site/go to either "All Posts" or "Pages"/in the title column move your cursor under the name of any article title/select ""Quick Edit"/ to the right of the screen under the Tags, you will see Allow Comments/click to check it. Click the blue "Update" button.
To enable comments on everything you publish go to Settings/Discussion/ make sure the 3rd box "Allow people to post comments on new articles" is ticked. I'd also ensure that you check both "E-mail me whenever" boxes AND "Before a comment appears" check the top box "Comment must be manually approved". If you don't you'll get spammed to bits eventually! Ensure your SI CAPTCHA in "Plugins" is activated.
You can also do a basic "on or off" from the Dashboard tab.
