Stillness and Silence

Today, I have been reflecting on stillness and silence. Stillness and silence two words that tend to trouble people when it comes to our daily lives. Many equate the two words to laziness and stupidity. But friends I want us to look at these words differently. For often times in the stillness and silence is where we find our next idea, our courage to continue, our love for the game, our passion for what we do.

The world is a noisy busy place offering its own explanations of success and value. It is easy to listen to the world as it hurries past, but the small voices, the noises at the margins are where you find your personal success. I am not preaching here even though this is a thought for preaching. I am simply saying is sometimes you have to listen to the counternoise the silence to realize where your business is taking you. Stay still long enough to give your ideas a chance to mature, to grow, to blossom.

Many leaders today struggle with trying to do too many things when they first begin that they loose their ability to see what's working and what is not. They equate business with productiveness, excitement with attraction but forget to measure the outcome. They continue doing the same things or change to something else before they have taken time to listen for the voice at the margin.

The good news is that we can learn to slow down and listen. We can practice stillness and silence in our business when we take a moment to step back from our business. This is advise that so many people will never take because it is counter culture to the world of profits but it is necessary if you are to maximize you efforts and profits over the long haul. Most people will fail in business because they never truly understand where they are currently positioned, where they have been or where they are going.
