Jake

The dog above this post looks EXACTLY like my own Jake, who is not-so-quietely snoring at my feet while I type this. Within the past month both he and I lost his girlfriend, Jilly, a German Shepard mix whom I found when the puppy came to my porchsteps on a dark and stormy night more than ten years ago.

Within the past six months, Jilly had acquired a small but terrible wound that got infected on her left front leg at the elbow joint. My job had laid me off, and I was only working 4 to 7 days a month, so I was barely getting by with my truck payments, insurance, phone bill and basic life necessities. I had no money in which to take Jilly to a vet, so I did the best I could by bandaging her leg, putting a soft pillow-collar on her neck so she could not endlessly lick her wound (she would always shake it off daily) and give her medication from a vet to help relieve some pain and hopefully ease the infection.

Jilly

It wasn't enough. The infection got so bad and I knew she was in terrible pain. I had only two options: 1. To let a neighbor/best friend of mine put her down with a shotgun (this was not an option) or 2. To take her to the city animal control shelter and relinquish ownership of her so that they could either give her medical attention or put her to sleep. This was the hardest thing I had to do in years.

Days later, after the tears and sorrow eased, I was so angry with myself. I was angry because I could not afford to give my dog the medical attention she needed and deserved. This animal had shown me only love for the past ten years, and this was how it ended for her. I'm still upset about it, now that I bring it back to the forefront of my attention.

I knew I had to make a change in my life I've known it for some time, but I didn't have the gumption to take action. I had been putting in job application after application into Indeed.com and Monster.com. I went to local job fairs and shook hands and left resumes. In a 3-month period I must have filled out more than 100 job apps. I received a job offer in the first part of May that offered me more than I was currently making with promise of more reliable and steady work. I signed the offer and gave my current employer a two-week notice. On the day I was to work for the new company, I received a text message telling me "I'm sorry, but we regrettably must rescind our offer of employment."

Stunned

I was stunned in disbelief. I was without employment, and was now unable to even collect unemployment benefits because I willfully quit my last job in the promise of a new one. So, I had to beg for my crummy job back. Since then, they only worked me a total of 14 days in two months. Last time I worked for them was the 4th of July, and they do not give Holiday pay, just another day in the oilfield. I have only worked 1 more day since then, for another company I had briefly worked for back in 2007. They are afraid to hire me part or full time due to the uncertainty of oil prices at the moment. So I worked for them for 16 hours as an independent contractor.

So yeah, I think I have received maybe 4 partial checks in the past 4 months. I have been desperately searching for ways to make money online. I got stuck in the same rut I was in a few years ago when I got "shiny object syndrome." Thanks, IM jerks! Just what I needed...to make you more money while you rob me poorer and keep all the best IM secrets to yourselves. Don't you just hate it when someone dares to blatantly give you false hope of financial freedom within the next 6 weeks, or overnight? I have been fooled time and time again. And I know I'm not the only one. They don't care about me or the other lives they ruin...

Hi Ken, I didn't know how you could have affected me personally. I could relate to a thing which we have limitations to do no matter how much we would love to help just like your lovely dog. It's painful, I know but here we are we have a hope that is based on realistic expectation and sure way of earning if we only do our part. Great learning experience from your viewpoint of life. You are not alone. Keep it going.
