Mid Autumn Festival - Moon Cake
In the East, back home in Singapore, on the 15th day of the eighth month on the lunar calendar which falls on today, 15th September in the Gregorian calendar where the moon is full and bright, we celebrated the Mid Autumn Festival or Moon Cake Festival.
Back in the days when I was working in China, SOE-JV (State Owned Enterprise), the staff were released early from work to have reunion dinners with families and business will host thanksgiving dinners to major clients to thank them for their continued support. In Singapore, many companies buy mooncake by the boxes as gifts for their loyal or major customers. Every year, my daughter's company will give the mooncakes to the staff as reward for their hard work and contribution.
These mooncakes will come in different favour such as lotus seeds or beans stuffed with salty egg yolks. The packaging for these mooncakes were very elaborate and I used to keep collect them. Below are 2 beautiful boxes where I store my IT accessories. I think half the cost of the mooncake went to the packaging and it is waste to throw them away. At least from the environment point of view. Try to Reuse.Well, on this special day, I wish that the big round beautiful full moon is shining bright at your end and bring smile and joy to everyone in the WA community.

This is a beautiful idea. I thought I knew it all with King Cakes in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. I'd love to try a moon cake.
Hi Michael, How I wish you are here in Singapore and we can have chinese tea with the mooncakes while the bright full moon shines over us. LOL. [Kelsey]

Never knew it existed and those lovely moon cakes - wish we had that festival here in Ireland!
Hi Michael, Well it has been celebrated for century ago one way or another by the Chinese in the East. May the Chinese community down in Ireland is relative small.

I have learned how special Lunar New Year is to the East. Today is another special day and I acknowledge the occasion.
From everything I have learned about the customs of Vietnamese that Lunar New Year is the most celebrated. I assume it is also very special to the Chinese too. Now I know the significance of the moon pies and they will hold a new meaning to me too. I would be like you and save the boxes these pies came in, because they are beautiful.

Hi Ken, You are right to say that most Chinese in the East celebrate CNY, Lunar Chinese New Year. Mid Autumn Festival is also another important day especially for the Chinese in China. I believe it could be due to the folklore about Chang'e and the 14th century Ethnic Han rebellion.
