Musings of a Newbie
So I'm new to this site and to Internet/Affiliate Marketing in general but would like to share some things that I have learnt over the last month. I am hoping that someone will be helped by this. I joined this site on March 2nd and upgraded to Premium two weeks later. Shortly after joining, I got sick and was unable to do much of anything for over two weeks.
So what has happened?
I have been able to set up two websites - and must confess that I have only been working on one of them.
Newbies Tip #1 - The advice you see on here about setting up one website in the beginning is great and I would advise you to stick to it. Unless you already have content for two and or have loads of time on your hands - stick to one in the early stages.
I set up one when I was following the Entrepreneurship Training and for now I consider it to be my "test" site. Later I will go back to it because I have ideas floating around in my head about it. This leads me to
Newbies Tip #2 - Write down the ideas as they come to you or you may forget it. Always carry a note-pad / piece of paper to scribble on or type on your phone or other device. You never know when a great idea will pop up!
If you are like me and have no experience of earning money online and want to get into a mindset of earning money; I suggest...
Newbies Tip #3 - You concentrate on the Affiliate Bootcamp. There is always a way to incorporate one of your passions in this. I didn't realise how easy this was to do until I started doing it. Put your focus here first if you are a total newbie like me.
It is certainly true that you need to write great content that is engaging.
Let me say that content writing may feel difficult at first especially if you haven't written in a while. I was struggling with this at first and felt like I would never come up with anything and wanted to give up. Must confess, I wanted to give up, wondering what have I gotten myself into... But then I reminded myself WHY I started this journey and that for my family's sake I will see it through to the end. Even if I fail (which I won't) then let me at least die trying! Soon I found ideas popping out of my head all the time - I can hardly keep up. So...
Newbies Tip #4 - It's not IF it's WHEN you hit that roadblock so be prepared and accept that it will happen. Don't pretend you are not frustrated, doubting your self etc accept it and ride the waves of discouragement. But I promise you that if you stick with it you will come out on the other side a stronger, better and happier person.
After the ideas started flowing and I felt like I was making some headway then I started to feel better about myself and life in general. I had been going through some challenges in my life but realised that working in and with something I am passionate about made the challenges less significant. Nothing had changed but I felt happy and better equipped to handle them.
Newbies Tip #5 - Working in an area you are passionate about will make you feel better! It must be all those feel good stuff like endorphins that are being released into the blood-stream.
At first, this site can feel like information overload (the OCD in me is still trying to find a way to categorise the information lol) but please try and read the blog posts and questions asked. Even though a lot of the information may go over your head, you will be surprised at the wealth of useful information contained in the responses.
Newbies Tip #6 - Pay attention to the posts and questions asked, bookmark the important ones for later. Of course - don't hesitate to ask questions someone will respond.
So to summarise - in three weeks I have proven to myself that an old dog CAN learn new tricks.
- I can build and maintain a website and I can do content.
- I am able to write within my niche and tie it into areas where I can earn money. Btw there are lots of areas where you can earn money but that's for another blog.
- I can write a blog on Wealthy Affiliate and give tips to other newbies like myself and maybe some of the older ones
- I can stick to something
- It can only get better from here
That's it people until next time...
Walk Good!
