Goals ReachedSuccess

In my last post 3 months ago, I set goals for the next three months, and (wow! we're here already) I have reached them! That feels good--like scratching an itch.

Goal #1

One of goals was to complete the training. I confess I cheated a little at the end and didn't do all the lesson work, but always did enough to understand the lesson and implement it as far as I could. Having the basic training completed and seeing that 5 badge on my profile feels like a real success!

Goal #2

Another goal was to start a new web site--done! And this one I love. After struggling through 2 sites that I found hard to work with after a short time, this feels great! My new site is saintsandscriptures.com. This is my 3rd site in 6 months, which is not good for monetizing and gaining traction with search engines, but it has been valuable in helping me learn the mechanics of setting up and maintaining a site. Since I'm not very computer-literate, this has been valuable indeed. So, though it's a mixed bag with some failure in it, I'll rate myself successful here, too.

Goal #3

I have also engaged with the WA community and have continued to be so blessed by all you guys and gals! Your stories, your accomplishments, your work ethic, your help, your support, and your training are all fantastic! I've learned so much from you, and I've been motivated to get up and keep going when I fall down. YOU--WA Community--are a success!!!

Goals, in general

The very last lesson is all about setting goals and living by them. Way back when I was in college I used to live by lists and the goal of marking things off the lists. Making a list of goals now, however, felt foreign and filled me with trepidation.

Why? I asked myself. The answer made me feel ashamed. It is that I don't think I can reach the goals I set, so why make them? This is a cop out because I certainly won't reach anything if I don't make a plan. This is my perfectionism taking over and telling me that written goals are rules that must be obeyed, and if I fail to reach them, I am a failure.

Travel Goals

My husband and I are getting ready to go on vacation. We will be traveling north from our home in Kansas to South Dakota and then on to the Canadian border. We have planned 2 stops--things we really want to see. Then we will turn around and drive all the way back home

This is our plan. These are our goals. We will undoubtedly stop and see other paces along the way, and be pleasantly surprised. We will undoubtedly run into a few problems, too. Perhaps the car will break down and we won't even make it to our 2 planned stops. But regardless of all that, we have a plan with 2 big exciting goals.

.

This is how I must look at my work here as a blogger. Without a "map" of goals I will go nowhere, see nothing, and experience no excitement. So I must not let fear or perfectionism stop me from continuing and enjoying my journey with WA!
