Don't Give Up Too Soon
Doing things the hard way!
I had started my affiliate marketing journey at the end of 2013. At the time I did not find any simple enough training programme to go by, so how I had approached things was to purchase a few ebooks on Amazon, read them and try the various tips provided. I ended up setting up a few websites and I spent hours working on the right theme, the right plugins, the right affiliate programs. For months I did not see any signs of progress. All I made initially was just under $2, so after getting too busy in my full time job I just left things hanging. I decided to allow most of the websites to just expire because they were costing me hosting fees, yet no income was coming in to me.
But Here's Some Good News!
From time to time I would continue checking my Amazon Associates site to see if I had earned any sales, but checking this was only because I make purchases from Amazon from time to time, so while already on Amazon I would check my Amazon Associates report to see how many clicks were received and if I had made any sales. There was nothing. I felt that I had gone about affiliate marketing in the wrong way and that I just needed to do proper formal training. Well good thing I did. It was while doing the last assignment here on WA that I checked my shareasale and Linkshare accounts, for the first time in about a year, and to my surprise I had made a sale of $8.22! That sale had come in after 6 months of having that website up, but I had thought none of my sites were making me any sales and I had stopped posting articles on that site very close to the very timing in which I made the sale, but of course without realizing it at the time. By this time now seeing that I had made the sale through shareasale, I had already allowed my site to expire, but fortunately the domain was still available (no one had claimed it), so I contacted my host and managed to renew the domain and have now resumed posting. So the lesson in this for me and for anyone else reading this blog is - don't give up too soon :-), and make sure you keep checking your affiliate accounts from time to time to ensure that you keep track of your sales.
