Sore - Neck, Back & Shoulders

I'm now at the half-way point in the training. Unfortuntely, I have developed soreness in my neck, back and shoulders, along with major knots, in all those places, from all the maneuvering of the mouse working on my website. My right arms has also experienced a little numness, I ended up getting a massage last week, and gave myself a little rest from my computer for a couple days.

I am taking more breaks more often, and switching the mouse to my left hand. It's so much more difficult and I'm SOOOO much slower. I am somewhat impatient too, and that doesn't help at all. Going to try some daily hot baths and another massage this week. Perhaps pop a couple Advil here and there, which I hate taking.

I know this will soon pass! I just had to vent. Feel free to leave comments and any advice below!

Healthy net surfing,

Kammy

How did you know I am experiencing that right now Kammy! The other day I felt the same and I simply got up to walk in the backyard. Later that evening I got a really good rub from my wife after a long, hot bath.

Thanks for sharing.
Forever Grateful

Venting is good sometime to relieve your stress. I see you are taking breaks. Try to relax and try a little stretching too. Hope it will be better soon.
All the best.

Hi, Kammy! I would suggest frequent breaks with lots of stretching. There's this thing called "The Pomodoro Technique," which comes from a book by the same name. It's actually a productivity guide that involves working for 25 min on a timer, followed by a 5 min break, then repeating. Every couple hours or so, you're supposed to take a 15 min break. I would strongly suggest using those 5 minutes to stand up, stretch, walk around a bit, do some neck rolls, etc... During the 15 min break, there's even more time. I get bad eyestrain from staring at a screen, along with a stiff neck, back, etc..., when I write for too long. I'm so glad I discovered this book, because it forced me to take a long, hard look at what I was doing to myself. I noticed that I got more done this way, without as many of the negative side effects.

I would suggest, doing this which will help tremendously ... first lay on stomach and lift one straight up, noticing the weight, then back down then the other leg, lift straight up and notice the weight. One of the legs will be heavier than the other. Take the heavier leg and cross it over the for 10-12 seconds, and then repeat the leg lifting process to see if legs weigh the same when lifted, if not repeat process one more time! I would also get checked on your vitamin and mineral levels, especially your magnesium and potassium.

Hope you are back to feeling great soon!

Using the computer a lot does not necessarily lead to the issues you mentioned. Why don't you check whether your position in front of the computer is correct, like does your mouse arm have support, is your chair too low/high and things like that. Good luck!
