How To Add Static Image to Home Page

Hello everyone.

I searched for the answer but I'm still lost.

I'm using Toothpaste theme. I would like a static image to appear above my posts.

Is this possible with my theme? Only work with another theme? If so, I will change my theme (I'm not happy with it - it's too clinical but that might be because I have no images yet?!)

I think I know what a header image is (it added the image behind the content summary) and background iamage is (it added image behind my posts).

I cannot see anything relating to a static image (which I want to be my site 'trademark'!)

Thanks for any help, J

Trying to sort this out myself. I had a 'banner' done and I don't want to make a mistake inserting it.

My pleasure!

Hi again- one last thing- I was doing a search on google and found this discussion thread within WA - it seems to address your needs ...maybe have a great holiday weekend

Fantastic!! Thanks so much. Can't wait to personalise my site now

I think what you are describing is called adding a "header". You can add a large header image (you must experiment with size or find out what the optimal size is for your theme - sometimes it is listed). If this is what you are seeking - start typing "header" into the search box at top of WA and you will see suggestions/training for creating or adding a header there... this is a good start unless I have misunderstood your question?

I think I do mean a header and I've already found an image, played with the size & updated in Wordpress but the image appeared behind the posts - I will try again!! Thank you so much

Ok - glad not steering you wrong... yeah -there is a difference in a "background" image which appears behind the text of post/pages,...what you want is the "appearance" then "customize" and "logo" - my theme has a header option maybe yours doesn't.

Background isn't what you want and you already found that out. I did the same thing originally with my site.

Done a bit more digging and I think it is my theme options that are limited. Thanks so much for steering me in the right direction, and I've learned the difference between the differenmt types of images too!

Glad it was helpful somewhat - yeah digging and trying things does help in learning as you have done. Sorry couldn't take you further- maybe someone else with more experience can.

I believe this is called a 'watermark'. It shows but doesn't detract from the text.

Logo?

I don't know!! When on wordpress most example themes have a nice big image on the home page....so whatever that is called!
To me, a logo is something small, that I would somehow add next to the site title.
So much lingo to learn!

The home page is so bare - want to add a picture
