Dealing with Family Opinions

Hello Everyone

I'm working really hard every night but that's fine. I live alone with my son, so once he's in bed I've got no one to give my attention to so I can just get on with it!

I love my niche, I'm hoping I've found a gap in the market and I am confident this will work well. This is my silver lining.

The only thing that is getting me down is my family. They are so blah about the whole thing. (I haven't gone into details but they know I'm setting up an online business based on blogging about my experiences)

I can't show them anything tangible (I am not letting my Mum see my site yet!) but I feel I talk with at least a little authority, as I've learned SO SO much in the past few months. (I know I've not even scratched the surface yet though too)

I am trying desperately not to feel negative about their impassive attitude but it does hurt.

Has anyone experienced anything similar and if so, what helped you to manage it?

Thank you! J x

I have the mindset that WA is an online education, with an amazing community. I think of myself as a student, and my sites are projects at this point, but they will become businesses. I also feel this will be a way to suggest to others who might want to do the same thing.

I have not discussed this with my family yet. They know I'm looking for something like this, but I just haven't mentioned it to them, since we don't live in the same city.

Keep doing what you're doing. I'm sure your son will appreciate having you home!

Keep your chin up & ignore it with a smile :). I keep most of my online business activities a secret from certain friends etc. in order to avoid the very problem you're having. But I also have an advantage in that I have a wonderful, supportive wife who believes that it can be successful.

There are a great many members here who have shared this same sad experience! I am blessed in that my fiance supports me, but he is the only one who has given me support. Their has been no support from friends or family, but that will change as my success grows! :) Hang in there Jo and know that you can always come here to find support! :)

What a great team! It's so nice to know I'm not alone. Thank you so much for your helpful comments

I think all these disparagers are those who couldn't make a go of it anyway. And lots of us are in contact with these people. My partner is one and although I have offered to show him what I am doing he still hasn't expressed interest. So at the moment I say bugger him and when I do make it he will be lucky if I tell him!

Hey J.... Yes I have had the same experience. When I fiannaly got ranked with Google, my husband was impressed and has been more supportive. But when it really comes down to it, You have to continue to believe in Yourself! For the first several months, you have to be your own cheerleader (well the WA community will be cheering you on too.) You CAN do it! You Wll do it! You ARE doing it! We are right here behind you!

Thank you so much!

Hi... It's difficult yes, I've been experience something like that. For example, more people here at WA liked my facebook page than people in my family.

Don't be negative. It's just they don't get it and people are generally afraid of things they don't know. That's my thought.

Enjoy your journey, do it for you and your kid. Lots of people experience what you're experiencing with your familiy... it's also happening to me...

Deal with it thinking how good you'll feel in your future as soon as you see your business growing.

Hi Justdoit73

I understand what you are going through. I choose not to tell anyone because chances are if you do explain what affiliate marketing is to then they probably won't understand it anyway. I've told people in the past but right away they think its a scam. Sure I was skeptical at first but once I made my first $$ online I knew this was possible,

If you do tell people then they will start asking questions :how much are you making" ect.. Pay no mind to it I just use the negativity as motivation. Just keep doing what you are doing..
