Sold a Domain Name for $2,000.00 USD!

Last Update: November 17, 2015

This is a follow up to my earlier blog that was wondering if anyone at WA had been contacted by Domain Agents a couple of weeks ago...

I was approached by them about a domain that I own out of the blue and was a bit skeptical so reached out and did some diligence on them and felt they were legit and entered negations with them.

They initially offered me $200.00 USD for the name but I turned it down as I had a project in mind for the name and it was valued at $560.00 USD at Estibot so that didn't make sense to me.

After a bit of back and forth we got to the $2,000.00 figure and for that kind of money I decided I could create a new name.

The transaction went through Escrow.com and the cheque arrived yesterday from them from Fedex.

It hasn't cleared the bank (US cheques are a slow moving thing in Canada) but I have every reason to believe it's completely on the up and up at this point.

Pretty exciting to create something that's really intellectual property, have it validated by the marketplace and to sell it for a profit.

I've got to give Jaaxy a hat tip because that's my go to brainstorming place to create domain names, it really helps me a lot.

At the end of the day that's really what we are all doing here at WA and that's exciting!! We work, think, strategize and create and through that help people and create value for ourselves and for others.

Sounds like the perfect business to me!

Anyway, I wanted to share the good news and if Domain Agents come knocking at your email address I wish you the best of success with your transaction!!

That's an example of an unexpected blessing. You registered the domain for other reasons, then you were surprised people are interested in it they are willing to pay that price.

Congratulations!

I had an offer of $200.00 for a domain I have decided to let go. 10 Days before it expired yesterday I had a email wanting to buy it. As I did not want it I excepted it in a reply email. I have not heard again. May be a stunt to renew it.
Reply
judym Premium
Maybe check the value of the domain online. It could be worth the small renewal fee. Fingers crossed for you :)

Well done Judy.
I used to create and sell sites for a living and did pretty well out of it so I know quite a bit about it.
I think you were right to do a wee bit digging and not just grab the first offer.
A lot of online companies buy up Domain Names pretty cheap if they can and most people don't know the true worth until its too late.
Have a great day and don't spend it all at once on chocolate lol.

Hi Judy,

Yes that can be a good way to make some extra cash....We just paid $2000 for an umbrella domain name for our new business that is opening near the end of the month....

The seller wanted $3600 for it, but we negotiated down to $2000! I know this sounds like a lot of money, but in the big picture for us it is not...

I am sure there are a lot of other entrepeneurs that feel the same, so my advice is to keep dreaming up names that will have a value down the road!

Cheers!
Dave : )

Yaaaaay! Great job. This is a great result and an amazing ROI. Without raining on your parade, I need to mention this. We can also keep in mind the future earning potential of a good domain, even ones that get little attention. If your good domain can turn , lets say $500 per month, it doesn't take long to pass the sale figure.

Congrats. I'm curious to know how long have you held this domain and for how much have you paid for that. And have you done anything on it before you sold it? Probably I should consider a try.
Reply
judym Premium
I held it for a year and a half. Nothing built on in and it was just a name cheap purchase so it cost under $25.00 for the initial purchase and then one renewal.
Reply
chengckalex Premium
Thanks Judy, this is really amazing investment with humongous ROI; you are more genius than those expert from Wall Street.

Well done, Judy! Having some doubts, but acting anyway really paid for you. You did some research, not for the sake of research or learning, but so you could make a decision and make a move. Sounds like you have at least 2,000 reasons to pat yourself on the back!

Brilliant! I haven't traveled down that road yet. After I registered my last domain name I received an email from someone who had owned the name previously but hadn't re-registered it. I was accused of stealing the name. Obviously I didn't respond.
