Spam via Wordpress?

I just noticed that I have started to get unsolicited emails via wordpress. My thought is that there are likely to be spam? Is my assumption correct?
May I know how I can block spam messages (i.e. are there settings I need to do)?

If you go to site manager, click on Details (with the 3 lines to the left of it) and go down to Site Protect (spam blocker) and turn that on. Maybe that will help some. I have it on and haven't had any problems.
I hope you'll get some other ideas to try. I'm sure a lot of people are running into the same thing and it'll be good info to save if we do.

I'm sure they are if you don't know the authors and they don't say anything of your posts rather than promotion.
