Journey so far.
Hi all,
I started WA about two weeks ago, or maybe a little bit longer.. Let's say 3 weeks ago. In that time I've found a niche, set up a website, had it indexed on Google, done some social media outreach, and put up a little bit of content.
I'm really pleased with this. I've meant to do something along these lines for about 9 years and just not had the incentive or the push to get it going - whenever I got to the point of writing something, I'd get self conscious and not publish it and it would just stagnate like that.
WA has really helped me engage with it, to realise that actually putting it out there is easy-peasy. I have found it easier to write and to put myself out there as a result. Massive step!
It's also interesting to note that when I started this, I would think "I have no ideas, I don't know what to write about, I don't know what niche to fit myself into" and so on. Now after a few weeks, I have ideas spilling out of my ears - I am literally filling notebooks with ideas, ideas for new content or new ventures, ideas for novels. I never knew there were this many ideas out there. It's like little inspirons, sleeting down from outer space, invisible like a storm of neutrinos, interacting with my consciousness networks at a rate of one every hour.
Anyway, enough of that!
It's not all been plain sailing. I have a full time job, a six (seven now, sorry) month old son, and work 120 hours a week on call as a firefighter. I write this having just come home from giving CPR to a patient.
So it takes me days to write a single post, I have installed iA Writer on my phone (for Android) to write a bit during my breaks at work, and when I'm watching the kid. But I'm getting there.
My goals for the next few months are to drive a bit of traffic to my site, get a LOT more posts up on it and fill in the blanks on the pages I've already created. They are a bit sparse at the moment. I need to sort out the theme on my site too, I'm not happy with the layout - it is dull. If anyone has any ideas, by the way, shoot them over here.
Within the next year - closer to six months, ideally - I would like to make a few pennies from my website, and hopefully realise some of my other ideas. In my head I have an MMO website, UK targeted; I have a fitness website; a few personal care ideas.... Oh, and t-shirts!!
Maybe if this all takes off, I will be able to leave my day job and write that novel??
Thanks everyone for the support!

WOW, 120 hours a week that only leaves 48 for sleep/eating etc or do you do that at the firestation? If your day job is eating up that amount of time then I would say its virtually impossible to work a business into the other 48 hours unless those are free hours. If so I would recommend outsourcing, there are loads of good websites to get decent quality posts written for you. Even if you get 1000 words and can add to them its a help. iwriter, upwork, humanproofdesigns, are all quality places to look. It comes at a cost but it can get you further quicker.
This is something I'm keeping in mind, definitely an option! I have a few hours here and there to do stuff, usually between 4-6am... Unless we're actively on a shout or when I'm at my day job I am essentially able to work (apart from the baby!)
Thanks for the kind words anyway :) tight lines!
