Started up a presence on the Web.
So, I've started (yet another) presence on the web. I've had webpages before. My first one was a Geocities page in the '90s, which was a writing and music website. Detective Stories and the Blues - the title was self-explanatory. I used that page for posting the writing links for the various little pieces I did, some for myself and some for the Creative Writing college course I was taking at the time. I got an A plus in that course.
Blues, well, I've always loved blues music, since a lot of life is in the blues. The 12 bar progression that manifests itself in a blues song is just one reason blues is called roots music. There are elements in blues music that is in just about every other genre of music. I have that in that webpage, too.
Then I lost all of that when Geocities shut down. Of course, I made the newbie mistake of not having backups.
I've never made that mistake again.
I ran a music podcast years later from a 56K PPP modem connection, and called it Joe's Jukebox Podcast, with a lot of independent artists sending me music to play on my podcast. I did, and I still have contact with some of them. I have backups of my files, except for one or two episodes that got lost in a hard drive crash.
I co-located that with Myspace, Twitter, and Facebook. I also have an opinion site on joesfrontporch.wordpress.com. It was disused for a while, due to some major personal changes that happened recently.
Now, I have a new effort, again with the writing abilities that I have. Steele Writing Enterprises, although at time of this writing, the search engines haven't had time to populate their indexes.I'm using the address http://steelewriting.siterubix.com for that This time, I'm thinking about the people who are like me and like to write.
What do people write with? Notice that I didn't say "write about," but "write with?"
My own writing is split between electronic and manual means. I use LibreOffice on both Windows and Linux, but there are times I shut the computers off and just sit down with a pencil or pen, and a yellow legal pad. The words flow then, and if I can read my own handwriting later I transcribe them.
As a matter of fact, I posted a review of my wireless keyboard and mouse combo on my SWE page, with links to Amazon and Walmart. People can click there to find their own.
I posted a writing piece of mine there, too.
And I think a little later today, I'll review that pen and paper - with links. Yes, I know that pads and pens and pencil can be gotten anywhere, but then again, who knows? Someone might decide to order a ton of those.
Time to put on some B.B. King, may he rest in peace, and write for a while.
