Are Surveys Actually Worth Doing?

Whenever one looks up 'ways to make money online' the practice of completing online surveys for a cash reward seems to be at the top of everyone's list; but....

are they actually worth doing?

I decided to find out.

Now, there are a lot, an awful lot, of survey sites on the web. Some pay you with gift cards, others pay you with prizes and yet others will allow you to transfer your revenue to Paypal or your bank account. On the other hand some only allow you to 'cash out' once you pass a certain threshold.

Now the site I am using for this experiment has no cash out threshold - if you have a penny in your account you can transfer that to your Paypal account without any fee or payment.

It also has a referral program whereby, if a person follows your link and joins, you get a buck as a reward (oh yes, a whole buck - awesome I know, right). The site also offers the 'standard' cashback schemes and offers that also feature on other survey sites.

It also has 2 other 'money-makers' that I hadn't seen on other sites:

1) It has a tie in with Google and, I believe, Bing where, if you do a qualifying search, a drop down menu appears to the left of the search results with offers on whatever it is you are searching for and, if you follow these links, you get a reward. Now, I have to admit the rewards are merely cents/pennies but, 10 qualifying searches a day and suddenly that;'s an 'extra' 50 cents or so that you didn't need to fill anything out for i.e. 'free money'

2) The 2nd offering is that, if you attempt at least 1 survey a day, or you complete the site's 'pop quiz' each day, you are rewarded with a little icon called an 'Oinq' - why it's called an Oinq I have no idea but, 5 Oinqs and you are rewarded by the site adding an extra 10% to the value of each survey you undertake. So, I have 'primed' my account with the maximum number of Oinqs and any survey I complete is worth an extra 10%; again, 'free money'

The Plan

I intend to work on these surveys as if they were my J.O.B. so that means 9 to 5 with 1 hour off for lunch.

I will not 'cherry pick' the most lucrative surveys but just work my way through them 1 by 1

My 'lunch hour' I will spend conducting searches on Bing and Google to see if I can pick up any other payments.

I will then report back at the end of tomorrow (6pm, GMT) with a breakdown of the number of surveys attempted, the number completed and the revenue gained from both surveys and searches. And, obviously, my opinion.

To be honest, I really am not expecting a great deal from this experiment as surveys are a numbers game, the more you do the more you get but as I said in the title of this post, this is but the 1st step on a long journey.

Let's see where it leads.
