When Progress Meets Paperwork: My Writing Journey Continues

Just when I thought I had cleared the biggest obstacles and could finally settle into a productive writing routine, another challenge appeared.

By 7 August 2026, I was back in Nairobi, my workspace was ready, my internet was working again, and my mind was flowing with fresh ideas. After months away, I felt as if everything was finally falling into place. I was writing again with energy and purpose.

Then an email from Amazon KDP arrived.

Amazon informed me that I need to complete identity verification by 21 August 2026. Otherwise, my KDP account could be limited. Since Amazon KDP is my main business for publishing books, this immediately became my highest priority.

Interestingly, this was not the first identity-related issue I have faced recently.

Earlier, the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) requested an affidavit confirming that the names on my passport and my theology degree belong to the same person. The difference is that my passport includes my surname while my degree does not. It is a common situation for many South Sudanese, but it still requires official documentation.

Around the same time, Payoneer also requested identity verification. I submitted the required documents, only to discover that they currently do not support my country. That process came to an unexpected end despite providing everything they asked for.

As if that were not enough, reactivating my Wi-Fi took almost an entire day. I spent hours trying to get everything working before the connection was finally restored close to midnight.

A few years ago, several challenges arriving together like this would probably have left me discouraged.

Today, I see them differently.

Every obstacle simply reveals the next task that needs to be completed. None of these issues changes my vision or my mission. They only delay the work for a short time while I solve what is in front of me.

The encouraging part is that every problem also has a solution.

The SAQA affidavit can be prepared.

The Amazon KDP verification can be completed before the deadline.

Payoneer may not be the right payment platform for me at the moment, but other options exist.

The internet is already working again.

That means I can return to what matters most: writing books, publishing articles, and serving my readers.

This experience reminded me that building an online business is about much more than creating content. Sometimes the biggest tasks involve compliance, identity verification, payment systems, banking, and paperwork. These are not the exciting parts of entrepreneurship, but they are necessary if we want our businesses to grow.

So, if you are facing unexpected administrative hurdles, don't assume you are moving backward. Sometimes progress simply changes its form. Instead of writing another chapter, you may need to verify your identity, update your banking information, or complete legal paperwork.

Finish that task, then keep moving.

That is exactly what I intend to do.

The creative ideas are still here. The books are still waiting to be written. My websites are still growing. This is just another chapter in the journey, not the end of the story.
