Creating the First Essential Pages

Before writing your first real post, you need four foundational pages. These pages build trust, clarity, and structure. Many beginners skip them or create them too late, which leaves their site feeling empty. Follow these steps and set them up correctly from the start.

Step 1: Create the About Me Page
Go to Pages → Add New.
Title it About Me.
Write two short paragraphs:
• who you are
• why you built the site
• what readers can expect
Keep it simple. You can refine it later.
Click Publish.

Step 2: Create the Contact Page
Go to Pages → Add New.
Title it Contact.
If your theme includes a simple form block, insert it.
If not, you can add contact details manually.
Beginners only need one thing: a way for visitors to reach them.
Click Publish.

Step 3: Create the Privacy Policy Page
Go to Settings → Privacy.
Use the WordPress-generated privacy template.
Click Create.
You can edit minor details later.
Publish when done.
Link this page in your footer so visitors can access it easily.

Step 4: Create the Affiliate Disclosure Page
Go to Pages → Add New.
Title it Affiliate Disclosure.
Add a simple paragraph explaining that your site may contain affiliate links and you may earn commissions.
Clear, honest disclosure builds trust early.
Click Publish.

Step 5: Add All Four Pages to Your Menu
Go to Appearance → Menus.
Add:
• Home
• About Me
• Contact
• Affiliate Disclosure
Place Privacy Policy in the footer only.
Save the menu.

Step 6: Check Your Navigation
Visit your site and click each page.
Make sure they load correctly.
Make sure the menu makes sense.

Step 7: Add Basic Introduction Text to Each Page
Even a few lines is enough.
An empty page looks unprofessional to visitors and search engines.

Step 8: Use Simple Blocks Only
Avoid:
• galleries
• columns
• icons
• advanced layouts
Your goal here is clarity and structure, not design.

Step 9: Re-order Your Menu If Needed
Most beginner sites should use this order:
Home
About Me
Blog
Contact
Affiliate Disclosure
This keeps navigation clean.

Step 10: Preview on Mobile
Click the mobile preview icon.
Make sure spacing and text flow are readable.

Step 11: Publish Everything
Once your essential pages look complete, publish them all.

Step 12: Understand Their Purpose
These pages:
• build trust
• build transparency
• make your site look real
• create the foundation for your SEO
Visitors should never wonder who you are or how to contact you. These pages solve that.

Your website now has a complete structural foundation. Header, footer, clean homepage, and essential pages — all in place.

In the next post, we prepare you for content creation and discuss why confidence rises once your site feels solid beneath your writing.
