Monopoly
Sam was passionate about playing Monopoly. He just loved playing it all the time and the reason why would soon become clear. However, Sam would play the game very aggressively. He would win all the houses and soon turn them into hotels. If you had something it wouldn’t be long before Joe would take it from you. Joe would go round the board snapping up everything in sight with a big smile on his face. Soon, every other player would have lost everything they had in order to build Sam’s Monopoly Empire. Sam would end up with it ALL!
Isn’t that really what most people try to do in life? Don’t most people just try to acquire as much as they can at the expense of others. Doesn’t everyone say to themselves, “What can I have next?” Are not people’ s credit cards maxed out having bought the latest thing they want but don’t need? Isn’t materialism a real problem in today’s society?
At the end of the short game of Monopoly, Sam didn’t mind putting everything away in the box ready for next time. It gave him the opportunity to meditate on his accomplishments. On this particular occasion, however, Sam had a spiritual revelation. The thought came to him that after our lives are over, everything we have gained will simply just go back in the box and someone else will come along and start all over with it. Sam made his mind up there and then. From now on he would spend the rest of his life doing only things which would last; only things which would count for something in eternity. How about you?
