Ultimately we are all running our websites with a view to earn income.

But that entire process starts with, and is entirely reliant on, developing and nurturing the relationship with our online readers.

That relationship is the one single factor that must be present, if your website project is to be successful.

All the other stuff that we learn at WA is clearly important, but without a growing relationship with an audience, you'll struggle to get the results that you want.

It's easy to forget at times, but every visit to your site, every comment made, every recommended product bought, was due to another person's action.

We are not interacting with computers or droids. It's real, actual, human beings on the other side of our websites.

So always think about your website from the perspective of your readers.

What questions do they need help with?

What problems are they facing that you've seen too?

How can you help them make progress?

How can you provide them with the most helpful guidance that you can?

Once you crack that, all other things generally fall in to place.

And, though it's a well known idea, people do buy from people.

To back that up, think about your own purchases made online.

Would you buy something recommended by a complete stranger who you know nothing about?

Or would you take time to read their posts and get a better idea whether you think they are knowledgeable?

I know what I do.

I can remember when I first joined WA, the early lessons from Kyle focused on the ideas of 'being yourself' and that 'affiliate marketing was all about helping people'.

At the time, I didn't realise just how important those messages were, but those two things are the essence of affiliate marketing.

Those ideas have been repeated over the years throughout WA's training and are part of WA's DNA.

Be yourself and provide help first.

That's how you build a successful website.

That's how you develop your audience relationship.
