I Love Butter Chicken and Great Service.
At first the name put me off thinking it was chicken marinated in butter. 2010 I moved to another city where I was invited to a dinner and butter chicken was served. Being polite I forced my self to take a serving and was told it goes well with naan bread so I copied what others were doing by dipping the bread. My first taste just took me to heaven. Don't know how to describe it but I'll just say it's one of my faves.
In Wellington NZ there's this Indian fast food joint. Upon entry to my surprise at the counter was a fair skinned Maori girl. Really cool chick, very talkative and friendly. She would always ask about my day and actually listen. Waiting time would be anywhere between 10 -30 minutes so we would chat during that time. Had I stayed there long enough we would've been friends. It was a very popular small business that had one cook and open hours are 4pm - 9 pm. They serve one of the best butter chicken meals I was a regular that my name became butter chicken.
Now that I'm back in Auckland there's lots of Indian takeaways but none serve anything that tastes like my first love. I did find one that came close. Only difference is every time I left with my food I was angry. They would snatch the money from my hand, once the woman tossed my change on the counter the coins rolled onto the floor and she didn't apologise. Her husband never smiled or acknowledged me but would change once his own people entered the store. Final straw was when I ordered 4 naan breads and received 2. In hindsight I never enjoyed a meal from that store.
I tried this other joint a month ago. A family business. Very pretty daughter and handsome son with their fathers friendly smile. Been there 5 times now and the portions are smaller and at a lower cost than the usual but it is filling and deeply satisfying. The service is E for excellent! The son and daughter serve at the counter and dad is the cook. When the food's ready for collection he comes out and acknowledges the customers with a thank you - how awesome is that? I reply by pointing at him saying "No, Thank You".
This post is inspired by my tummy as I'm about to head out to get me some butter chicken. Nothing new but now that I've thought about the connection between the food and service, how it affects my mood and taste buds I can taste the butter chicken right now - the type of service we offer for anything matters. This butter chicken I'm having soon will be the best because it comes with great service that allows me to eat with a grateful heart!

Haha Joe that's AWESOME! I fully believe it takes special people to be in customer service and it annoys the crap outta me when I get grumpy people. As a muso, one of the things you get taught is "leave your problems at the door". So for the duration of the show, you become someone else in order to cater to the patrons. Should be the same for public service I reckon. Yay for awesome butter chicken! In Welly, Curry Heaven is the best :)
Didn't try them but I think there was one in Lower Hutt. Curry to go in Stokes Valley ... yeeeeeeeeeah!
