The Journey Has Begun
"Building a Website Ain't Scary..."
This is what the training says, but I was honestly thinking otherwise. For the longest time, I have had the tendancy to want to carefully calculate my every move before even getting started, but as time goes by, I am realizing that this may not the best approach. There is a quote that says, "Everything you want is on the other side of fear." - Jack Canfield.
So, I took the plunge. I set a goal to start my website before going to bed tonight. So I went to "Websites" > "Build a Website". Ok, so far so good. I started with a free domain. No problem. But now they were asking me to choose a domain name! (*Small mental implosion occurs). I thought that maybe I should do a little research, and I came across this article:

It was talking about how to drive traffic to your website and choosing a title that would match with your search term. I knew that I wanted to have a site about baking. Specifically baking for beginners. So I went over to the "Research" tab and it led me to the Jaaxy website. I searched the term "how to bake..." and it gave me several suggestions. At first, I was going to do all baked goods, but my specialty is cake, and that was one of the resutls: "how to bake a simple cake". I figured it was perfect! According to the article above, it's better to have less competition, and my phrase had a low QSR score of 49!
So, I did all of that just to come up with my domain name. Next, they asked for the title of my website. Once again, I commenced into panic mode. However a beautiful phrase arrested my attention, "You can always change your website title later". I was so relieved! I confidently entered my website title (it was just the same as my domain name). I don't know why I thought everything had to be complicated.
Finally it was time for the easy part! Choosing a layout/theme. However, I had just upgraded to premium, so thankfully I had 4,174 layouts to choose from! Once again, I became overwhelmed. But I decided to use the "Favorites" feature to narrow down my choices. I went through the first couple hundred options marking my favorites, and then once I chose about 50, I picked from that group. Much easier!
And that's how I started my website! I have tried to make websites before, but I didn't know how to monetize my knowledge and get my content out there. My journey has just begun, and I have much farther to go, but for the first time, I feel like I am finally well on my way to creating my business online! So to my fellow website builders, congratulations! Let's celebrate the start to this awesome journey.

I feel you so hard! I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I like things to be all shiny and pretty before I release them into the world. Unfortunately, this means I rarely release things into the world because I'm scared they're not "good enough" yet.
Through writing first drafts (I'm writing novels right now) I learned to let go of some of that perfectionism. I used to edit first drafts as I went and get stuck on tiny details and never finish any of my stories. When I learned to let go of that and allow myself to have an "ugly" first draft (seriously some of my writing is horrendous), I was able to finish the story and then go back and make it shiny and pretty. "You can't edit a blank page" is one of my favourite writing quotes.
I'm trying to take that idea with me here. My web page can look awful for a while. I can have posts that aren't ideal. But the important thing is to have SOMETHING. Something can be improved little by little as you learn. But if you expect to go from nothing to perfection in one step, you may never put yourself out there.
