The Elevator Pitch Blog Style

The infamous about me page can be a blessing and a stumbling block. Some find it easy to write, while others (myself included) stumble to present the about me page or author bio.

I find it awkward at times to write about myself. Maybe it's the personal journey of taking off the cover and showing the world more about myself as questions come pouring over: "Will they like what they read and check other content on my site?", "Will they hate me and create a mad mob like in the classic Frankenstein movie? Fire bad!", or "Will my about me page be reasonable enough to attract the audience I want to reach?".

Once the mud trodden walk of questions comes to an end and the author finally puts his/her fingers on the keyboard, the journey of fine tuning the about me page begins. What points really make an about me page grab their attention and hold onto the precious audience you seek? These three tips will help:

  • Start off with an elevator pitch: An elevator pitch (Or as I call it, "Short and Sweet") is a well versed thirty second pitch to explain your blog, which you have critiqued to hit your target audience. Along with a picture of yourself, this will make a nice opening. Hook and sink.
  • Align your interests and goals: As you delve deep into the reflection of your life story, pick the parts that will connect with the audience you have selected. The personal content you choose will have a deep impact in connecting with your audience. The rest of your life story falls into a scrap book to show grandma :), so don't bog your readers down with a full life story, unless your blog is about life stories.
  • Make yourself available: Taking the time to communicate with your audience by providing a way for them to contact you is a great tool to build loyal followers. If you decide to make your email available, use a modified form like (example(at)gmail(dot)com) to keep those nasty spam bots at bay and maybe some bot keep away spray will help too.

The about me page is but a small component, but one that truly does keep the gears turning. I wish you all the best and look forward to continuing my journey here among the WA community. You are all by far the best and most supportive people I have come across on the internet :).

I find it hard to write about myself as well! Glad I'm not the only one!

Great advice. Thanks!
