Have I Chosen The Right Niche?
Every time I start researching to support new content I land on a website that has essentially same niche as me. The website is laid out well and has great content.
My 1st reaction is: How can I possibly compete in the same niche as this killer website?
It seems every topic I chose to blog about on my site has already been covered by this other site. My guess is that phi'm not the only one here on WA that has run into the same or a very similar situation.
What's A Person To Do?
Do you pack ii in and give up? Absolutely not! You're in this for the long haul, right?
Do you try to find a new niche and start over? Maybe, but do you have another idea for a niche with a subject that you know well and can talk about?
Well, for me, this is my first website and I have invested a fair amount of time into it already so I don't want to lose that momentum. I also really like learning new things in my niche.
There's still the problem that others have likely already covered the same topics I want to blog about so I had to approach my content differently.

I offer some tips that I've used and may also help you come up with more unique content.
A Different Approach
As you work through your research reviewing others' information, ask yourself what these other blogs were not saying.
Are they covering many topics at a high level? If so, maybe you can write about only a few topics in more detail.
Are there products that you can review that other sites have not?
Maybe you are learning something new in your niche. Track your learning and blog about the experience, outcome, pros, cons, etc. This is one approach that I often use as I have chosen a niche that I am passionate, but also still learning, about.
Helping others learn from your mistakes makes for great content.
There is probably all kinds of news being reported in your niche. You probably also have opinions about some of these news stories. I find it pretty easy to blog about my own opinions.
Check into non-profit organizations. Maybe there's a story about them or what they are doing that inspires you and you have something to say about. I've found that some of these organizations are quite willing to let you talk about their stories and even use some of their images. All you have to do is ask.
Try and Try Again
I mentioned above that this is my first website. It's likely not my last but, for now, it's the one I've committed to so I have to keep trying. We all have to keep trying!
Since we all have to keep publishing unique content to get traffic to our site, we all have to keep testing and developing new approaches.
I don't think it hurts to bless competing sites along the way as they simply want the same things as we do - traffic and clicks.
What have you tried that has worked or hasn't worked? I'd love some feedback.
