Introduction

First off, I want to say hello to all of my WA colleagues reading this blog and thank you for your help and support.

I went Premium within my 1st 7 days of working on the site as I saw affiliate marketing as a great way to supplement my income and expedite my retirement from Corporate America. Don't get me wrong, Corporate America has served me well but after over 30 years I'm ready to move into doing what I want and when I want.

I'm sure most of you have had similar experiences and expectations of what you want to get out of WA.

Progress So Far

I've been working my affiliate business now for about 2 weeks - 20 hours per week during my lunch hour, after work on on the weekends - so a total of about 40 hours. Wow, that just sunk in!

In only 40 hours I have had my site ranked, I have become an Amazon Affiliate, I've completed level 2 of the training and my rankings have gone up significantly. Given my progress, I believe firmly that the system WA has put together really works!

I haven't been this exited about something for a very long time - Corporate America has a tendancy to chip away at your motivation.

First Niche

The niche I am currently working is 3D printing for the home enthusiast, school or small business owner. I happen to work in an engineering team that is very active in the most advanced 3D printing technology available today so have some first hand experience with the technology and how it can change product design.

By choosing a niche that was also related to part of what I do in Corporate America, I can, at times work both my WA business and my 'day job'. Kind of a 'two birds with one stone' thing.

Think about it. I can do research for new site content that also directly supports my job. How cool is that. In fact, I am writing this blog on my lunch hour.

I'm working on my site daily. It's still 'young' but is growing pretty fast given the short time input so far.

To support my niche and build up my 'authority' I also purchased a 3D printer for my home. I actually converted the research I conducted while shopping for the printer into my first blog post. As I 'play' with my home 3D printer, I get new ideas for site content.

Goals

I still believe in the orignal goals I documented when I signed up for WA. While I appreciate the amount of work required to make this business successful, I think $2000/month is very doable with hard and time.

Getting to $2000/month will allow me to retire from my 'day job' and work my affiliate business full time - that's the real carrot and some serious motivation.

Enough about me. In the next section, I'll offer up some advice that may help you build your business.

Lessons Learned

  • Go through the training and take action frequently. I take a minimum of one action daily.
  • I have chosen to focus my efforts on just 1 niche for now. Will add other niches and websites later on.
  • Look forward - have ideas for at least your next 2 blogs and start thinking about content
  • It's actually pretty easy to find time to work your business - you can spend 2 hours watching TV or 2 hours working on your training, site content, content research, keyword research or simply jotting down some notes for your next blog
  • As you are doing things related to your niche, you are actually conducting research and developing content. Say your niche is related to Challenging Golf Courses. The next time you're out on the course and you have a difficult lie, the technique you use to get back on the fairway is blog-worthy content.
  • My wife was concerned that I was 'working' too hard. I responded that it's not work if you like what you are doing.
  • I'm so excited about this opportunity that I want to spend every waking hour working it - I need to remind myself that this is a marathon not a sprint. Easier said than done but helps put return on your efforts into perspective. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither are businesses.
  • You are accountable only to yourself. Let that sink in for a second. You are accountable only to yourself. Isn't that liberating?

Thank You

I want to thank Kyle and Carson for founding WA. If you think about, these guys are frickin rock stars. What they've built here is a masterpiece and I am grateful to be part of it.

Thanks also to all of you who make WA what it is. The inspiration, training, coaching, advice and encouragement make this a world class community.

The future is very, very bright!
