Addressing Speed Issues on Your Site

I recently saw a comments by SurfsideBob & SDane under the topic "Speed issues on all my sites?" I tried to respond and help out, but I had some posting issues, so I thought I would share my experience in resolving speed issues for you site;

If you are having speed issues do the following:

1. Use Google's PageSpeed Insights:
https://developers.google.com/...

It provides info on the performance of a page for mobile and desktop devices and provides suggestions on how that page may be improved.

2. Make sure your images are fully optimized. Large image file sizes can drastically reduce your page load times. I use two sites to compress my images:

https://tinypng.com/

http://www.imageoptimizer.net/...

3. Purge all page cache for your site. I use two different plugins to do this - W3 Total Cache and Autoptimize. Here are the videos I used to set them up:

These helped to leverage my browser cache and eliminate render-blocking on my site. Those seem to be the two that have a huge impact on your sites speed.

Using the above info, I have been able to get both my desktop and mobile configurations above 90% (green for Google).

Hope this helps.

James

Unfortunately the links for the Youtube videos didn't post. Go to YT and search for:

"W3 Total Cache Settings for Absolute Beginners" by GrowCheap

&

"Eliminate Render-Blocking JavaScript and CSS in Above-The-Fold Content in WordPress" by Online Marketing Management

You should be straight after that.
