Content and writing style.
2
I am re-employed now (very excited about it) so stress is relieved, and with this project started up, I find myself required to write. Not (entirely) creatively, but critically. The content of my website isn't as simple as product reviews, nor as freely fun as short stories... It is analysis articles. Very time consuming to research, difficult to consolidate into a timely-read paper, and (and this is the part I am struggling with, but also feel is the most important to break through) very tough to add personality and style to.
Or at least that is my experience. I am likely making it harder than it needs to be. I've been well known to do that.
I used to have a writing style, 5 or so years ago and beyond, when I regularly wrote fiction. However, not only have I been away from it for so long, but this is a different type of monster I'm tackling now. Albeit, one I was always good at before, but my audience is no longer my teacher/professor. To entertain and engage my readers in the fashion I want to, I need to loosen up. Write more naturally and less formally.
I finished my first article today, but, though I am proud I've made progress, I hate it. Not that that's saying much. I always hate my first drafts.
This is going to suck.
This is going to be awesome.
I'm actually very excited to develop some freakin' style. I can't stand it now, but I can't wait for the finished product.

I do some academic writing where I have to do some critiques in articles and research studies. This is the impression I am getting from you here. I also see you focused more on developing your own style than your content. If you try to focus on the niche and keywords your style will come and begin to flow.
True, it is hard to develop style if you don't even have content. I am still setting most of my focus on the research and content building, but injecting some style along the way is something I am making sure to work on.
