Breaking Away From Procrastination

Yes, I am one of those people who find it really hard to start anything, and even if I do get going, I find it incredibly hard to actually remain productive and move towards the goals that I have set for myself.

I have so many notebooks and bookmarked pages on my laptop and phone, a collection of tips I have accumulated over the years, but have I ever really followed through with any of the wise and helpful advice? Maybe...at first, for a short period of time, but I soon lost "motivation" to move forward.

Yesterday I came across a video on YouTube, where they were saying that laziness or lack of motivation could be a good thing. They explained, it is good because you tend to feel lazy about a task due to the fact that you probably don't like doing it. Therefore, this is a good indication of your emotions and why you might feel like you cannot even start the task in the first place.

Of course, that's one way of looking at it. It could be a whole list of other things. I was once talking to a fellow actress of mine at work, and she was saying how she had an offer on the table for several years now to make her voice reel at her friend's professional studio, but she never took him up on it. She really needs a voice reel in order to market herself as a voice over artist, and she said she cannot understand what on earth is stopping her to actually take this step in the positive direction and finally make her voice reel. She doesn't have to pay for it, her friend would edit everything for her free of charge, so what is stopping her?

Well, I recognized my behavior in her story and I believe that what is stopping us is fear of failure. What if she records the best voice reel she can, gives it to her agent, uploads it on her acting platforms, and nothing comes of it? Nobody is interested. Nobody books you for a job and nobody even asks you to come in for an audition.

This is exactly the same reason why when I started doing the training at WA and went premium in January 2020, I had a few months when I never even logged in to the platform. Now, I had already established that the platform is out of this world amazing, already told my friends and family how brilliant the community is and how people are selflessly helping you, realized that the training and information available here is mind blowing, and still I somehow managed to sit through February, April and May without even logging in.

Oh well, no point dwelling on it, but I realized that the reason I do it, is the fear of failure. And this is an irrational thought process that like myself, you might struggle to control and break away from. However, no point dwelling on the past and think of all the wasted time, I promised myself that I will set a tiny goal every day, to do something positive (however small) in order to improve and grow my online business.

I write this post hoping that if you find yourself in this situation, you really CAN DO whatever you set your mind to. You just have to keep reminding yourself that you are the only one holding yourself back from getting to where you want to be. It's the old cliche, I know, but it really is true.

Just keep going, keep moving forward and do not allow that little voice in your head dictate to you what you can and cannot achieve.

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday.

LOL. I felt like you were telling MY story. I find that I work best when I have a deadline. It's been like that my whole life. If the book report is due tomorrow, I'm ON it today and I will do what it takes to get it done. Strange how people think.

I think that's the key Debbi - finding what works best for you and working when you are most likely to be productive. :)

Fear of failure is something that unfortunately stops many people from actually getting stuck into a project.
I'm glad you have found a way to overcome it.
Good luck

Dave

Yes, it's really unfortunate as it's an irrational fear ...

We've all been there at one time or another!

Really inspirational. I hope it spurs some people to take action. I think we've all experienced this at some point. There are some things like video and podcasts I haven't ventured into, maybe for that reason. :) Thanks for the post.

Paula

Thank you for reading my post Paula! I really hope it does encourage some people, like you said, we've all been there :)

I can relate lol

Now all we have to do is break away from negative thoughts and keep going :)
