Website looks great. Is the window shade a new feature? I havn't
seen it used before. It seems as if it takes away from the rest of the
content and images. If you like it than its ok.

I still don't know what you're talking about. Do you mean the main menu at top maybe? Perhaps a screen capture would be helpful...

Your site looks good and is very information. Two suggestions: 1) your title photo is a little dark and hard to distinguish the content and 2) your title '9 top etc' looks funny going over the one line (especially as it is a number). Maybe you should make the font slightly smaller to get it in one line.
