My first month on the job

.....with me as the boss.

After looking at my profile just now, I realize that today has officially marked the end of my first month on Wealthy Affiliate. And so, to commemorate this moment (and complete the tasks of course 2, lesson 10 which I will admit plays a huge part in me writing this blog in the first place), I will now state the things that were accomplished in that short time.

MY BLOGS - THE PROGRESS

First of all, I have now have 12 blogs, 16 comments and 8 pages.

Writing these blogs were hard, not because I didn't have ideas for content but because I'm short for time. Between full time work, that often goes over to the weekends, to house chores, to taking care of my 9 month old....time is precious and limited in my life right now. But, I'm going to give myself a pat on the bat for sticking it out. It meant late nights (I mean, LAAAATE 2,3,4am in the night nights), sneaking some writing in at work and whenever I can, sometimes with baby in one hand and my other hand typing (like last night). Although I put up at least 2 blogs per week, I'm still behind where I should be. It's all good though, I do feel that I'm getting better at this. I have more of a structure now that I can work with to cut the time a bit.

GETTING HELP

Later down in the month, about two weeks ago, I hired two freelancers to write a significant part of the blogs I posted, after which I edited and added my section before posting. I decided to do this because of my limited time, however, it hasn't worked out as well as I wanted it to. I've spent hundreds in getting them up to speed, and was hoping that after that initial investment I wouldn't have to be forking out so many dollars. But not only am I still paying hundreds this week, the quality of what's given to me doesn't help me cut time at all, because now I'm spending time doing major edits and basically just rewriting the whole thing.

But I don't blame the freelancer...she's very hardworking, I believe.

It just hasn't worked out for the both of us. Now that I realize this, plus some other personal reasons, I will have to let her go and continue to do that work myself. As for the other freelancer, her rate (which is three times less than the first one) and the quality of her work has convinced me that I can continue to work with her. She has helped me cut time when it comes to her work, which is what I need.

MY RANKING!

I have to end with the most significant achievement for me. I literally saw this, like 2 days ago. All this time, I was creating content and I was worried that because of my niche, the amount of keywords available to me were limited. Since you don't know under which keyword you will rank, this was a bit concerning. You don't rank, you don't get traffic and you don't get a chance to make some money. So, I was checking and checking (but tried not to obsess over it) the rank of my blog.

Nothing.

The tools said I wasn't ranked in the first 20 pages, or in the top 100 (links, I assume) or I just wouldn't find my blog anywhere in the first three pages after typing in my keywords. Whatever it was, the main point was, I was still insignificant.

But I went into this knowing that it will be hard, that there will be times of doubt, that it will take TIME, and I had to keep reminding myself of all this to stick it through, even when the results of my hard work weren't much.

And then I reached course 2, lesson 9 and as always I went through the lesson faithfully and did my best to follow the instructions to the T. Now, this moment didn't come while I was trying once again to look for my blog. No no, I think I was maybe looking for pictures and information.....honestly, I can't even tell you what it was, I probably forgot a minute later because at that moment, I saw it. My Google+ link to my blog ranked number 2. Even before Wikipedia!!!

I can't explain how rewarding it felt. Even this morning, I'm still typing in the keyword so I can see over and over again, the fruit of my hard labor.

I really wanted to tell this to everyone here, because I wouldn't have been able to get here without this community and the lessons. Thank you so much. I am so grateful. I never thought I would be able to have a website of my own, let alone be ranked number 2 in a google search. I look forward to learning even more and to give back what I have received from this community.

I also have some persons that have become a bit like role models to me on here. I don't want to embarrass anybody, including myself, by naming names but I tend to follow those that I want to emulate and try to read the blogs that they post on here.

WHERE I'VE FAILED

I really need to get into watching the live classrooms (whether when they are actually live or after, doesn't matter) and I'm disappointed in myself in this area. Every week I register, every week I forget and every week once Friday passes, I suddenly don't have the time to watch the videos. I need to stop this. So, starting today, I will be watching those videos as well. I'm holding myself accountable by putting it here first!

Golly, I hope I didn't make this too long. So, what about everybody else? How has your time on WA been so far? Let me know in the comments below!
