When Love Is The Way!
On the day of the Royal wedding, I woke up early to watch. I think it was simply beautiful and stood out for the multicultural elements never before seen at a Royal wedding. I Loved the choir that sang Ben E Kings "Stand by Me" and the African American Minister who raised eyebrows and shook the comfort zone of the stiff upper lip royals and the Brits who seemed so totally incapable of showing any emotion.
For me however, it was the message of Pastor Curry that resonated most as one of the best sermons I've heard preached in a long while and one which, I think the world needs to hear. Unfortunately, because of the toxic racial and political divisiveness which pervades the world today, as well as people's short attention span,I think his real message was practically missed and overlooked.
In discussions which followed privately and in the media, persons seemed to think it was all about him throwing shade at the royals, because he quoted Martin Luther King Jr and made a couple passing references to slavery. To me the point he wished to stress, was all about the "Redemptive Power of love" He very skillfully used the occasion of the nuptials of these two young people to teach the world a more profound message on the "power of love.'
The Redemptive Power Of Love
If only the people in the world understood the power of love... Love is the only power that can change everything that's wrong with the world. It is the only power that can transform all the hatred, violence, bigotry, various forms of abuse terror that grips the attention of the world today.
He said "Imagine a world where love is the way, imagine homes where love is the way, imagine nations where love is the way... it would be a new world, a sanctuary. Imagine a world where men lay down arms and study war no more. We wouldn't need to be talking about nuclear disarmament. Love is the balm that can heal all our wounds. Love is the power that makes forgiveness possible
To many his ideas seemed far-fetched,and more like some New Age woo woo doctrine.
itsn't it ironic in a world where people profess to be Christians....followers of Jesus Christ, so many miss this essential elements of his teaching, and search for solutions everywhere else. It seems to me that the solution to man's problems is hiding in plain sight as what Jesus called the First Commandment.
" Love the Lord your God with all your Heart, soul
And mind...and your neighbour, as yourself"
It is dismissed as an inane Bible verse but, Thats really it Love God your creator, love your neighbour, love yourself too. How many people we know who hurt others and hurt themselves, because of their own self hatred.
Conclusion
In a world where love is the way, we would recognize the divinity in each other, the intrinsic worth of each other, seek to build up rather than tear down. We would recognize our common humanity, treat each other like brothers and sisters and realize we all belong to one human family. Race and colour would be less important.
The long and the short of it all, is for things to change we all must return to LOVE. and forgiveness. It not about who has strongest army...and greatest nuclear power. These things can only destroy us. Love is the only real solution, and its hidden deep in the heart.
Thank you Bishop Curry for this powerful message. It may not happen anytime soon, nevertheless it is the only way. One day, one day perhaps it will resonate with more people..
