Is seo dead?
Recently I came across an interesting and eye opening blog post by Neil
Patel, who is perhaps the number one internet Guru on SEO strategies.
He is an ardent advocate of content marketing and blogs 7 times per week.
The Post is titled. "Everything I Told You About SEO Was wrong"
well it certainly caught my attention.
In this post he outlines the fact that although traffic to his blog had increase by 123% over time, his ROI increased by only 12.5%. So he proceeded to analyse and test to see exactly what was going on.
So he compared the results of two different companies.. one which was more
focused on traffic and the other basically more focused on getting sales and
conversions. He realized that the one that focused on the sales did get
better ROI. Let's face it,we are in business to make money.
He came to the conclusion that it it was perhaps more
important to go after conversion and sales rather than increased traffic only.
The dilemma is that to rank in Google you have to meet a certain criteria, but that does not
necessarily lead to more sales, although it may lead to higher rankings.
At WA where the basic model is seo and building authority, we all know that this is a rather
slow process and does take time to build momentum.
According to Mr. Patel If you are in a hurry to see some positive financial, results it is more
about strategy than tactics. His recommendation for content creation is to use a combination
of blog posts, social media Marketing, paid advertising along with SEO.
So is SEO dead? Absolutely not, it has its place. But while higher rankings and traffic are
important, higher revenue and sales are more important for most people. So it is crucial to
optimize for revenue, sales, leads and ROI instead of just purely for traffic alone.
