Why Most Newbies Don’t ‘Get’ This Business Model (and How to Save Them Anyway)
(A Friendly, Slightly Sarcastic Wake-Up Call)
So you’ve joined Wealthy Affiliate, or you’re lurking in the background wondering if this whole “affiliate marketing” thing is legit. Maybe you’ve even asked one of the following:
“Do I need a computer or a handphone to be in this business?”
“How do I do it?” (Literally… that was the full question.)
If that sounds like you, keep reading. If you’ve answered a question like that recently, you might want to share this post with the person who asked it.
Because here’s the cold, hard truth most people won’t tell you:
Most Newbies Don’t ‘Get’ This Business Model… Because They Don’t Want To
They want the results.
They don’t want the work.
They want the payout.
They don’t want the patience.
And I say that with love, because I was almost one of them. But I stuck around.
Not because I made fast money. I didn’t.
Not because I had it all figured out. I didn’t.
But because I recognized early that I had to unlearn everything I thought I knew about “making money online.”
My First Rookie Mistake?
Keywords.
I had no idea what a “focus keyword” was… or a long-tailed keyword… or why I couldn’t just write about "best RV tire brands" and expect to rank #1 by dinner.
Now? I still ask AI for help half the time—but I know how to shape content that actually stands a chance at ranking. That took time. Practice. And yep—actually going through the training.
And when I see people asking:
“How do I do it?” …without even completing Lesson One, I get it. They want the shortcut.
But affiliate marketing doesn’t come with a cheat code. It comes with a process.
Let’s Talk About Spam for a Second
You ever get one of those spammy, “You should join my business” pitches inside WA?
Yeah. I delete them. And then I message Kyle or Carson to keep it clean around here.
Because WA isn’t a pitchfest. It’s not a scam hub.
It’s a business platform for people who actually want to build something real.
People who treat WA like a slot machine are missing the entire point.
So… Can These Newbies Be Saved?
Actually… yes.
But only some of them.
The ones who show up.
The ones who ask questions.
The ones who commit to learning—not just consuming.
I’ve mentored a few folks personally. I’m not some guru. But I do try to give back inside this platform—because I get what it’s like to fumble through your first website build, panic about SEO, or wonder if anyone’s ever going to click your affiliate link.
To the Newbie Who's Already Wondering If They Should Quit
No. You shouldn’t.
I know you haven’t made money yet.
Neither did I in the first 3, 6, 9 months. And guess what? That’s normal.
Affiliate marketing is not:
- Get-rich-quick
- Set-it-and-forget-it
- Instant traffic and commissions
It’s more like:
- Build-now-get-paid-later
- Learn-as-you-go
- Delay-gratification-for-real-reward
The #1 Advice I’d Give You If You’re New Here
ASK QUESTIONS.
Don’t sit in silence and assume you’ll figure it out alone.
WA has one of the best learning communities anywhere. People actually answer. They want you to win.
But if you ghost the platform and then come back three months later wondering why nothing happened… well, you did that to yourself.
Final Thoughts: I’ve Been Where You Are
I’ve seen it inside WA. I’ve seen it in MLMs I used to be in. I’ve mentored people who “wanted it” until it came time to work for it.
This isn’t meant to discourage you. It’s meant to light a fire.
You want to make money online?
You found the right place.
Now show up.
Be consistent.
And give yourself permission to not be good at it right away.
That’s how we save the right kind of newbies—by helping them see the long game.
Now let’s build something that lasts.

That's such a clear message and so many lessons. Although I did start a while back I think I made these mistakes expecting something, but now I know better. If you are a Newbie please stick to what has been said here.

Thanks, JD I try to be here every day. I'm not retired, so here when I can be, I'm still learning the platform, going through the training, just slow at learning, I will get it and move on, I am a Learn-as-you-go kind of guy, not looking for Instant traffic and commissions, Iam committing to learning—not just consuming.
Slow and steady also wins the race... You're doing Good!
