SSL - Green lock Vs. Black lock
First of all I want to express my appreciation for Jays wonderful live training tonight. The more time I spend in this community, the more I am in awe at what has been created here, all the training that is available to me, and the support that experienced members give to me DAILY!!
Now back to my point lol. During the training I noticed quite a few people wondering about the color of their lock icon. Jay said it should be green, but many said theirs was black or gray, myself included. So I did a little research and hopefully I have found an answer for you.
I use safari and after turning on SSL for my site, my lock icon was black. I figured this was just the way it was because even WA has a black lock icon in safari. But then I visited PayPal and noticed they have a green lock even in safari??!
To make a long story short, in my utter confusion I stumbled upon this. If you use safari and had the same question I suggest you give it a quick read.

If you don't feel like it, basically it says that for safari, a black lock means they have https protocol and a STANDARD identity certificate. A green lock means the site has an EV certificate which is more extensive identity verification.
This is just how safari chooses to operate. When I typed my site into the google chrome browser..... abracadabra!.... my lock was green.
So basically I'm sure this is nothing new for our more experienced members. But if your new like me and were wondering the same thing hopefully I put your mind at ease! Your site is safe and secure even with a black lock. If your not sure, why not download chrome and test it there.
Please feel free to correct me if I have misstated anything!
Thank you Kyle Carson and Jay!!
Peace out
