On comment disapproval

I do agree with the reasons for not approving a comment for giving bad rap to our site, it is against the guidelines. I was disapproved twice for comments but I learned very little from the reasons why. No one is perfect it's difficult to go through and quote a person word for word.

There are some sites I will no longer comment on due to the reason that I may be disapproved. It is wrong for the person who disapproves to assume that the reader has not read their post. Of course I'm more generous with my approval I care little for the perfection of a truly engaging comment. It's not always possible.

As I said no one is perfect and people will often read through a post and are eager to comment but their comment may not always be as engaging as we may have wished. So I disagree with most of the comments below on disapproving comments.

Sometimes I fix the bad grammar or I thank them for their time. To read the post in the first place is hard enough. Sometimes it takes ten minutes to go through and another five to comment, so it's very rude on the person who owns the blog to be picky or to assume and reject a comment if it is a tad bit imperfect.

Again I suppose I'm a bit more generous than most unless like the comment above then I have no choice such a comment doesn't touch on the subject and is rather rude.

No one ever told me the comments appear on the site. I did not know

Wow I just left a completely positive review on a site asking for feedback and it was disapproved. The comment I made clearly showed that I read the article fully and commented on the content. I guess I won't offer feedback n that site anymore

That's exactly what I do. If I comment read the article and they say they didn't like the comment I don't comment on their site ever again.

JCcarlos: I agree with you. I also avoid certain contributors, as the reasons for their disapproval are not related to the comment, it is more a question of them not liking what has been said. This kind of control is not organic on the internet.
Unfortunately, by picking and choosing, I am guilty of “teaching to the test” which makes the whole the system become a game, which I have to figure out. It reduces sincerity.

If the comments are relevant to the content of my site I approve them irregardless. There might be misspellings, improper grammar, it doesn't matter as it is relevant to the content. What I don't approve is things like colors I use on my site, font size, improper image sizes, color of text. These types of things are not relevant but rather feedback which is not what is requested. This type of information is of no use to a site owner to post live on their website. Thanks for sharing your views.

I'm usually not too fussy about comments because "in the wild" you are going to get all kinds. However, that being said, if I am engaging WA members to comment then I expect decent comments. When I comment on other WA sites via the commenting system, I do my best to give a useful and relevant comment - I expect the same consideration in return.
