Whining or a Lesson Learned?

Blogroll

I had mentioned, in my previous blog, about having to convert most of my site’s pages to posts, because I found out that only posts will work in the creation of a blogroll

Lost Time

It has taken me 3 weeks to clean up this mess (almost done), which could have been prevented if I had known that Pages don’t work for a blogroll. The lesson learned here must be… “Not to take anything for granted!”

Believe me; if you’re the unlucky one, like me, you don’t want to go through what I had to go through to fix something that could have been prevented in the first place. Don’t misunderstand me, I am not whining & do take responsibility, but why not let all those new to world of Pages, Posts, & Blogrolls know about this issue up front. In my humble opinion, they should know this before a single Page or Post is created.

Quit or Not to Quit?

For some of us who have a limited time/day to devote to WA, 3 weeks is a great loss of time, which could easily discourage a new member to just say “Oh! Forget it! It’s not worth it. I quit!”

I can honestly tell you that I was tempted to do just that myself! Thanks to the fact that I had already gone WA yearly!

Why Did I Write This?

It was not to complain about what I had to do to take care of my issue, but to further warn other to be careful and… Check, & Check Again… everything you do – till such time you’re a pro!

A Blessing in Disguise!

Being the optimist that I am, I can say that my Bootcamp training was put to the test – Fortunately, I had retained most of the knowledge & just went straight to work! I am not, however, eager to repeat it anytime soon!

I hope this will, at least, help a few people who may stumble – like I did!

Best wishes to all,

Jay

Hi Jay! As a beginner on WA, I really appreciated you sharing your most unfortunate experience with everyone and I for one will use it as a learning tool. I was relieved to hear that you resolved the issue and didn't give up. For me, as a newbie, I found it inspirational that you stuck it out and took the hard road and solved the issue instead of taking the easy road out and quitting. Your story gives me hope that when things get tough, and they will, a little hope and alot of determination will get me and anyone else through the toughest of tasks. Thank you for sharing and best wishes!

Dan

Hi Dan,

I really appreciate you comment and am really glad that I was able to provide a small amount of encouragement to you. As a new member, the last thing you need is to be discouraged.

Be assured that you're in the right place with WA for your success. One the main reasons I am sticking with WA is because it is the best thing I have ever found that can help your home-based online business work!

Another reason is that I never give up - I may improvise, but not give up! I am sure you share this conviction as well. Right?

Hang in there my friend & let me know if I can be of any help along your way to success.

Best... Jay.

Hi there Jay,
I feel for you and know only too well the feeling of what it's like having to undo something that you have put hours of work into. I have not reached your stage yet of placing my content but I vaguely remember reading somewhere about Static pages and post pages but no dire warnings regarding either. Clearly there is a need for this but as well it is good, I'm sorry to say, that your experience brought this out into the light. Cheers, Simon

Hello Simon,

I appreciate your comments. & hope that you did not have to go through this mess as well.

I suppose, looking back, it thought me a few very good lessons, which I value. It also prompted me to do something about it _ I wrote my first tutorial on this topic, so that others may not have to experience the same problem.

Take a look at it & let me know how it comes across. As a matter of fact, I also did address the topic of Static Pages & Recent Blogs, that you may find of interest. I find it much better to have a blogroll for my site's front page as opposed to a static page, which used to be my WA Review.

You take care for now & all the best... Jay

Hi Jay, I will read it thoroughly and comment as soon as I can. Just now I am not at the stage where I can relate because I did not do Bootcamp. Talk later, all the best with it. Cheers, Simon

Thanks for sharing

Sorry for the late response Bill67,

Thanks for your comment & I hope that it'll benefit others in the future.

All the best to you... Jay

Hi Jay,
Sometimes things get missed.
I bet if you make Kyle aware of this he will correct it.

Sorry you had to work so hard.

All I can say is the powers that be must have thought you needed to know and practice changing pages into posts ......... :P

Shawn>>

How are you doing Shawn?

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate your caring.

Sorry about the late response - I had to take care of a medical situation for my friend. I am back now to see what's up.

By the way, I just posted my first tutorial on the same topic, till such time we have a WA training on this subject. I hope it'll help others, especially the Newbies.

Shwn, I am moving slowly, but I will get there - hopefully, in one piece!

My very best to you & take care... Jay

How did you convert? I just converted over 30 posts to pages. Took me 3 weeks with editing. Thank God I used the plug-in pType Converter.

John Worthy

Go to the page and click on Edit. To copy all the content click into the page on the "Text" tab, then ctrl+a (for all) ctrl+c (to copy) go to your new post and go into "Text" tab then ctrl+v (to paste). Using the keyboard shortcuts makes it so much easier. ~Marion

MBlack, I knew that part and that was the reason I got the plug-in. You can do one at a time, or several, up to 50 (I believe). All you have to do then is add the TAGS, Excerpt (if you wish), Featured Image and assign post to a category.
John

Hi John,

I did everything manually & they came out just fine. I hope that my blog will help others.

Best... Jay

Thank you for sharing! And I am glad you didn't quit! It is better that we all learn, help each other to learn and help Kyle & Carson to understand things from a beginner's point of view so they can address the issues.

Sorry for the late response Christabelle,

I had to take care of a medical situation for my friend for a few days.

Thanks for your comment & I hope that it'll benefit others in the future. I have also just put out a tutorial on this very same topic to aid our WA Newbies. Let me know it does the job.

All the best to you... Jay

Did you address the issues that Robert addressed?

Thank you for sharing this important point..!
You have done good to keep with it and stay with WA, after all you do want to be with the best?
I understand your 3 week time loss, things like this that mess your stuff about, and make it hell, till you sort them out.
But great when you have stuck with it and got the job done right?
This is a lesson to all to be aware off at an early stage in your online career. Now that you have had first hand experience of this event you are not likely to repeat it any time soon..! are you?
You could not have had a better lesson, all be it an unpleasant...!
Perhaps you can earn more credits here at WA, by putting it into your training area so others can benefit from you experience...?

Sorry for the late response WestBay,

I had to take care of a medical situation for my friend for a few days.
Thanks for your comment & I hope that it'll benefit others in the future.

As you had suggested, I did put out a tutorial on this topic to help out others till such time we have WA one on this irritating subject.

I appreciate your thoughts and encouragement.

All the best to you... Jay

Pages vs Post has been a great source of grief here at WA for a long time. Maybe there should be some extra training on it right before the lesson.

Totally on target here my gracious friend! My problem, very similar to Jay's, came from not understanding categories and how to use them. By the time I understood categories, I had more of an understanding of posts vs pages and did what Jay just finished up on. What I've realized by observing other sites is that I prefer sites with simple menus, simpler header areas... much cleaner looking... in my opinion... totally in my opinion. My original site C&FC; still has a full deck of a menu bar and I really don't like it at all. Soon as I get the time, I'll take a look at making some of the static pages into posts. I really do like the concept of posts vs pages and find that there are a bunch of possibilities properly using categories!
Thank ya' again, Terea... appreciatin' ya'!

Sorry for the late response Trialynn,

Thanks for your comment & I hope that it'll benefit others in the future.
Also, I have put out a tutorial on this topic & have brought it to Kyle's attention as well.

All the best to you... Jay

Hey Jay, I experienced something similar a few months ago and I even lost some social network shares in the process. But like you said, people will certainly learn from others' mistakes. Isn't that one of the most common ways of learning?

Sorry for the late response Ade,

I had to take care of a medical situation for my friend for a few days.
Sorry that you also had to experience this ordeal - it's really frustrating. Isn't it? I have already sent a PM to Kyle about this issue & hopefully it'll be adressed soon.

By the way, I also published my 1st tutorial on this topic. Let me know what you think?

Thanks for your comment & I hope that it'll benefit others in the future.

All the best to you... Jay

Jay, excellent blog post. Great lessons for others.
