My Weekend Trip Ichetucknee Springs
Weekend trip to Ichetucknee Springs

The picture above am being told its like a picture from a travel website, but its not yet. I took this photo standing on overlook boardwalk.
This is the north entrance, where small kids can enjoy a little water. The kids have to be well watched as it just drops off, we made sure the grandkids had life jackets even though they knew how to swim.

Here is a closer look at the steps for kids to get in, you can see in background people snorkeling for wild life and looking at the underwater caves.

My grandson Alex who loves hikes, every time we go on family trips, he always follows along with me when I hike. This hike resulted in me being in lots of pain on hike back from the gallbladder which is scheduled to be removed at 11AM eastern. So, that is why posting this blog early.

My twin and brother-in-law snorkeling in the blue hole which is 40 foot deep with lots of caves to explore if you are experienced certified diver. If you are caught diving without proof of certification, you will be asked to leave the park with 1st warning of suspension of 30 days.
Another park rule is Food and dogs, there are lots of picnic areas for you to set up on picnic tables but keep in coolers closed up and no food near water. No dogs allowed near water, only in picnic area or hiking trails. As gators are attracted to dogs, as dogs are like chocolate to gators.
We watched several people try let their dogs swim in the springs, they were asked to take them to picnic area or trails, but they wouldn't listen and were escorted off the park. I love my dogs too, but when you take your dogs with you to springs like this putting everyone in danger along with your dogs.
My 3 year old granddaughter sleep the entire time there because her mom the night before gave her kids melatonin for her to rest and enjoy the day, which didn't suit her. So, my daughter could enjoy watching her boys swim, I sat at picnic area half of the time there holding Lily why she slept. My daughter felt so bad Lily missed out, so we are planning another trip in August before school starts back.
Overall, a great place to have some summer fun or hiking.

It looks like a beautiful place and a wonderful day. Wow if there are alligators around to grab dogs, wouldn’t they grab children. I have never spent any time swimming anywhere with alligators.
Alligators can get small kids. No lifeguards but had lots of park rangers looking out for everyone. I was raised up around them always feared them and gave them the respect they deserve. No expert, but my memories as a kid gators ran from us because they were scared unless we were fishing, and they try get your fish off hook before you can. The only thing we saw that could possible harm us is the greyish black snake and we were not sure if moccasin as they information they posted on signs were of the brown water snake, but the snakes were in area you couldn't get to. I had fears myself with the gators and small children, that is why they say no food or dogs near water.
Top it off, its mating season for the alligators so I was nervous.
I'm done with surgery back home, kicked back in recliner waiting on pain meds to kick in. Thanks
This location was in one of my articles. Gators that are a freaky thought. Ya must keep eye on your pet dog. The swimming to the caves sounds like a lot of fun. But of course, need to be a certified diver that I'm not. Good luck with your surgery.
Thank you, I'm home now! Yes, I took lots of pictures. The kids were very tired passed out at 3Pm so went back home. We planning on going back in August, as we didn't get to do the tubing and paddle boarding. That is where we would more than likely see a gator. The trip this past weekend was mainly for the small kids, which I was a small kid as well at heart as that is first spring went to and I was born and raised in Florida, and still live in Florida.
This makes me want to visit all the springs now, instead of avoiding them. Oh, I did see Wikki Watchee Springs a couple time but now swim in the water.
Thanks for taking us along, Janette.
Good Luck and Good Fortune with your surgery.
Blessed Be
JD
Thank you for sharing, Jannette. It sounds like it was a wonderful time had by you and your family.
