Daily musing - Wondering about key words.

Today I'm focusing on learning how to use key words and still not clear on how to implement them. I have searched through many of the lessons trying to figure out if your domain name is a good key word itself, do you use it in your title too? Or is that like saying something twice and annoying the almighty Google to boot?

Hi Janne, Not much to add any different to what has been said, but I will say this, when ever possible include your key words in your URL and title key words, e.g. Lets say your selling T shirts and you call your website zazzle.com, now what reference is that to T shirts? Well nothing, so how does zazzle get so highly ranked in google? Because it has to pay people a lot of money to work on their key words in the title only and any key words on their site, in this case they have what is known as a branded name URL, like a store, lets say primart, so what does the word primart mean to people if they have never heard of primart?Nothing, so they are relying on the "brand name" for people to click on the world wide web. Now then going back to the beginning with T shirts, If you can find a URL "domain name" with the words T shirt, or tee shirt in any combination, then you have a good chance of getting ranked, why? because when people look for things they type in what they are looking for, yes? It goes to reason we do that, now the art is combining your new found domain name with key words that people are searching for, with a search number of about 17,000 views per month, this way you stand a good chance of ranking on fist page. Here's a quick check so you can what I mean, in the google search box and just type in tee shirts, now under neath that search box you will see a figure it will some thing like 31.4 million, now lets just change this a little, now type in "tee shirts" withe quotation marks, walla, now you have 12.7 million, because google is just picking up that phase tee shirts, where as before google is picking every site with the word tee and shirt, get the idea? this is a good rule of thumb to work to. I hope this has been oif some help for you.

Hi J,

Keywords are the way people find your content in the search engines. You should be targeting keywords that's related to your niche and write about these keywords.

To find out what people are searching for you can either use the WA keyword tool or Jaaxy. If you haven't claimed your 30 free searches with Jaaxy yet you can do so by going to www.jaaxy.com

Once you find a keyword that you want to use for your article you should have it in your title and once in your first paragraph. It also helps if you have it in your domain name but it's not necessary.

I hope this helps and if you have anymore questions or need my help let me know.

Scott

Thanks Scott. I have been using Jaaxy and was surprised to find a really good key word that I had already purchased as a domain name a couple of months ago. Which lead me to wonder if I could use it again in a title or not. Here's a question for you. Do you only use a key word once on your site in an article? While reading one of Kyle's trainings it seemed like he had 100 different key words for 100 different articles. So my domain name is also the main key word for my niche, that's where my questions are coming from.

Hey J,

Yes you only want to use the keyword once. One keyword per article is the key here. You should be doing keyword research on a variety of different keywords related to your niche.

Another great way to find out what people are searching for within your niche is to type in Google Does product name work? Replace product name with a product in your niche.

The training covers all of this and as you start going through the lessons you will start to gain a better understanding of keywords.

I wouldn't consider your domain name a keyword. You will be getting ranked for the articles you write and not necessarily your domain name. Having your keyword in your domain name can help you get ranked better but it's not as big of a factor as it used to be.

Scott

The Yoast WordPress SEO plugin is useful for reminding you how to best use the keywords in your post. Also pays to use it in the image title, header tag etc - which Yoast reminds you to do.

haven't even learned about that yet! Sounds like a really great thing. :) thanks!

Use your targeted keyword phrase in the title of your post and in the first paragraph of your article.

even if it's also in you domain name?

Yes :)
